It’s part renovation sim, part business manager, and part chaotic people-pleaser, and while it doesn’t reinvent the genre, it certainly knows how to keep you pouring pints and washing those dishes.

The game begins with a tavern that looks like it’s seen better centuries. Dusty floors, broken furniture, and a distinct lack of customers set the scene, and it’s all down to your good self to scrub, repair, and decorate the place into something worth visiting. The early hours are surprisingly hands-on and you’re sweeping floors, hooking sausages, and learning how to keep moving.

Running the tavern quickly becomes a juggling act. Customers arrive with different needs, and keeping them happy means balancing speed with quality. However, it’s not just about pouring pints. You’ll be cooking meals, restocking supplies, and gradually expanding the menu to attract more boots though the door. The loop is simple, but weirdly addictive, and before long I found myself taking a genuine pride in my digital medieval tavern.

There’s More to Tavern Manager Simulator Than Beer and Bar Snacks

As the tavern grows, so do your responsibilities. You can hire fairies (yes, fairies; they give the game those extra charming fantasy vibes) to help with the workload; upgrade furniture to improve the atmosphere and hold larger groups, and even talk to your customers to make them feel welcome.

However, success doesn’t come without the occasional headache. Customers can be messy, impatient, and sometimes downright rude, and keeping on top of their demands can feel like herding thirsty cats. Random events and unexpected problems pop up just often enough to keep you on your toes, whether it’s a sudden rush of patrons or a supply shortage at the worst possible moment.

There’s also a nice sense of progression as your tavern slowly transforms from a grotty shack into something resembling a respectable establishment. New decorations, better equipment, and a more eclectic menu all feed into that rewarding “just one more day” feeling.

A Cozy World That’s Rough Around The Edges

Visually, Tavern Manager Simulator goes for a colorful, slightly cartoonish medieval style that fits the theme perfectly. It’s not going to melt any graphics cards, but it has a warm charm that makes spending time in your tavern feel comfortable and familiar.

However, the game isn’t without its rough edges. Controls on Xbox can feel a little fiddly at times, especially when trying to place objects precisely or navigate busy service periods (I found turning the look sensitivity down a tad helped a little). Moreover, some tasks become repetitive quicker than I’d have liked, and a little more variety in customer interactions wouldn’t have gone amiss.

That said, there’s something undeniably charming and relaxing about the whole experience. Watching your tavern come alive at night, with every table full and coins rolling in, scratches the same itch that the best management sims always do.
