Face Interrogation (PC) Review

Developed by a small indie team with clear narrative ambition, Face Interrogation is a slow-burning, dialogue-driven experience set within a vibrant yet deeply unsettling dystopian world. From the moment I sat down with it, it was obvious that this wasn’t going to be a game in any kind of rush. Instead, Face Interrogation takes its time, letting its world, characters, and moral dilemma seep in gradually. It’s an approach that won’t suit everyone, however, those willing to meet it on its own terms will find something quietly compelling beneath the surface.

The World of Face Interrogation

Visually, Face Interrogation strikes and interesting balance. The world is colorful and eye-catching, yet layered with a constant state of decay and tension. Neon lighting clashes with oppressive environments, creating a setting that feels chaotic, broken, and just a little bit dangerous. Furthermore, the art direction does a great job of selling the dystopian tone without ever feeling over designed or forced.

The atmosphere is elevated even further by genuinely strong voice acting. Characters feel believable, grounded, and, most importantly, human. Conversations carry weight, and there’s a lingering sense that everyone has an angle, an agenda, or something they’re not telling you. However, because the game leans so heavily into dialogue and atmosphere, the pacing is intentionally slow – and it makes no apologies for it.

Slow Pacing by Intentional Design

This is not a game about fast reactions or constant action. Face Interrogation is deliberate, methodical, and sometimes almost uncomfortable in how long it lets its moments linger. However, the pace feels intentional rather than accidental. It gives you time to read between the lines, to consider your responses, and to think about how your choices might ripple outward.

Furthermore, the same slow pacing reinforces the tone of the world itself. This is a place weighed down by systems, control, and consequence, and the gameplay reflects just that. You’re encouraged to listen carefully, pay attention to subtle shifts in dialogue, and make decisions based on instinct as much as logic.

Choices and Consequences

Where Face Interrogation really begins to shine is in its branching structure. There are multiple routes through the game, with choices that genuinely alter how events unfold. Even within the demo alone, there are reportedly ten different paths, which speaks volumes about the game’s commitment to player interest. Furthermore, these routes don’t feel superficial; they lead to different conversations, outcomes, and even endings that encourage experimentation.

This makes replayability one of the game’s strongest assets. You’re constantly left wondering what might have happened if you’d chosen differently, asked another question, or trusted a different character. However, this also means that the game demands patience. It’s not interested in rushing you to a conclusion; it wants you to explore the consequences of your decisions, even when they’re uncomfortable.

A Few Rough Edges

There are moments where the lack of mechanical variety becomes noticeable. Some sequences rely heavily on conversation alone, and a bit more interactivity could help break up the pacing a little. With that being said, these moments rarely derail the experience entirely. The strength of the writing, world-building, and performances does just enough to carry you through.

Summary

Face Interrogation is a thoughtful, slow-paced narrative experience that puts choice, atmosphere, and character front and center. It won’t be for everyone – especially those looking for constant momentum – however, for players who enjoy reflective storytelling and meaningful decision-making, it offers something genuinely engaging. It’s a game that lingers in the mind long after putting it down, encouraging reflection, replayability, and a deeper appreciation for slower, story-first design.

If you’d like to dip your toes into the murky waters of Face Interrogation, there’s a demo out now on their store page.
