Final Fantasy VII spinoff officially announced

By Quinton Miles

Square Enix announced today that the much rumored spinoff of Final Fantasy VII is indeed a reality. In the latest issue of Japan’s Jump Magazine, the company has released the first information on an action starring FFVII’s Vincent Valentine. The game has been officially titled Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

The game lets players take control of Vincent, who is a former member of the Turks. It also takes place a year after Advent Children, meaning it is after the events of the original game. The story begins as a secret group calling themselves “DG” starts attacking a peaceful town, causing Vincent to take action.

Besides these few details, Square Enix has not revealed anything else on Dirge of Cerberus. A release in Japan is expected for 2005, and it is possible that it may show up during the company’s press conference at the Tokyo Game Show this month.
