OTTO-08 PC Headset Review

If you are looking for a high quality gaming/PC headset, then OTTO will surely fulfill your needs.

The model OT-8 headset uses SRS (Sound Retrieval System) technology that goes beyond typical stereo sound.  Instead, this headset delivers a richer, more 3D audio output.  The noise-canceling microphone sounds great as it filters out a lot of background noise.  In combination with the thick ear pads, this headset will keep you focused on your PC screen.

Using true plug-n-play technology, there is no installation CD or any extra drivers to install.  Although my PC required a system restart to finish the install, I think this is a better option than loading an extra program to run in the background of my PC.

Any gamer will tell you that comfort is a major factor when considering a headset purchase, because who wants to play in discomfort or pain?  Luckily, this OTTO headset was designed with care but it is not without its flaws.  While the padding on the ear cups are quite soft, it is a rather tight fit around my ears…unless I just have bigger than normal ears.  But on the other hand, if the ear pads were not has tight, then unwanted outside noise pollution could easily corrupt gameplay.  Another annoyance with the tightness of the headset is the fact that it is rather unforgiving to people who wear glasses.  The ear pieces on my glasses immediately started to dig into the side of my face.  But after some adjusting of the headset, this problem was slightly alleviated.

On the left ear pad lie two buttons, one to increase volume and one to decrease volume.  Although this is a handy feature when it comes to adjusting the sound of the headset, users need to remember that the sound will need to be fine tuned with your own personal PC’s audio settings.  The volume on the headset only does so much.

The right ear pad houses a simple to use SRS switch as well as a surround sound gage.  When the SRS switch is turned on, all audio contains a more 3D sound…almost like it booms/enhances it a little more.  While this is probably the biggest highlight of this headset, I rather prefer to have this option turned off when listening to my Mp3’s.  On many rock songs, it made the music more muffled…as if adding too much bass.  However, this headset works a lot better when playing games.  The booming 3D effect makes gameplay more immersive than a standard non-SRS headset.  It should be noted that this is an over-the-head headset, not a behind-the-head.  The headband itself is well padded and quite soft.

For the $49.99 price tag, this headset is a worthy purchase.  While it does not support genuine 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound, it mimics it well using the SRS technology.  The mic sounds rich and the headband is very comfortable.  It is too bad that the ear cups are not a little more friendly to users who wear glasses, but non-glasses wearing people should not have any problems.

And just as a side note, the packaging design gives the product a younger hip vibe, well suited for gamers.
