Wolfenstein 3D Returns to XBLA-PSN

Wolfenstein 3D, the pivotal FPS by id Software, has returned to the XBLA and PSN for 400 MS Points/$5 thanks to Bethesda. The game is also set to launch in Europe soon as well.

This classic game was originally released for DOS in 1992.  Then in mid-2009, Activision released ports to PSN and XBLA.  However, Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax acquired id Software not soon after the Activision Wolfenstein launch.

Because the publishing rights to the game switched hands, the game has to be re-evaluated by the ESRB, Sony and Microsoft to gain proper certification since the Activision version could not be transferred to the ZeniMax version despite being the same game.

A new Wolfenstein game is currently being developed by MachineGames.  The New Order is scheduled to launch sometime in Q4 of 2013 and will be released on 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 and PC.  This new game will see the return of B.J. Blazkowicz, the hero of this original DOS version.
