Club Nintendo June 2013 Summary

Close Out the 2012 Program with a Double Dip –

The end of June declares the end of the 2012 Club Nintendo program.  Nintendo is offering quality VC titles this month, a great offer for European gamers, and a potential double dip with Metroid II.  Details below:

Game #1 – Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES – Wii Virtual Console)

Price – 150 Coins, normally 500 Wii Points ($5)

Availability – June 3, 2013 – June 30, 2013

Summary – One of best games ever.

Opinion – You know this game. No need to explain it.

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Simply put – Yes.

Game #2 – F-Zero X (N64 – Wii Virtual Console)

Price – 200 Coins, normally 1000 Wii Points ($10)

Availability – June 3, 2013 – June 30, 2013

Summary – Released in 1998, this futuristic racer features Grand Prix and multiplayer modes.

Opinion – Although it is not as fun as Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing (there are no weapons), F-Zero X on N64 is still a quality gaming experience especially if you are a fan of the Wipeout series.  It is fast and challenging.

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins?   Download it.

Game #3 – Link ‘n’ Launch (DSiWare)

Price – 150 Coins, normally $4.99

Availability – June 3, 2013 – June 30, 2013

Summary – Move tiles to get fuel to your rocket and complete dozens of puzzling levels.

Opinion – I have not played this title but it is developed by Intelligent Systems which is a positive indicator in my book.  This looks like a new type of puzzle game but with a hint of Meteos flavoring.

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – This could be the sleeper hit you are looking for.

Game #4 – Metroid II: Return of Samus (GB – 3DS Virtual Console)

Price – 150 Coins, normally $3.99

Availability – June 3, 2013 – June 30, 2013

Summary – Kill all Metroids in this Gameboy original.

Opinion –  Metroid II is the worst Metroid game in the entire franchise.  There is no mapping system.  Samus takes up the entire screen.  And there is no indication on where to go next or what to do.  However, if you missed out on Samus’ extinction mission back on the original GB, you might want to check this out. *However, there is one bullet point you should note about this game (see below).

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Skip it as you might have already reached Gold or Platinum status.

*The end of June marks the conclusion of the 2012 Club Nintendo program.  Here is what Nintendo lists as the special prizes this year:

Gold Members (300 Coins or more) – 2013 Desktop Calendar, Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again game download, Metroid II: Return of Samus game download, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask game download, and Super Mario Kart game download.

Platinum Members (600 Coins or more) – everything that Gold members receive plus Mario Playing Cards and a limited edition poster set which includes images from Kid Icarus: Uprising, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, and Zelda Skyward Sword.

Club Nintendo Rewards

This means if you reached at least Gold status, there is no point in spending your Club Nintendo Coins on Metroid II this month because Nintendo is supposed to be sending you a free download code for this game anyway.  And if you have expiring coins, you need to use them by the end of this month.  Coins are only good for two years.

Monster Hunter Promo

Finally, European gamers are being treated to a special Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate promotion through Club Nintendo.  If you buy a copy of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on 3DS and register it with Club Nintendo, you will receive a download code for a digital copy of the game which you can give to your buddy to play local co-op.  The 3DS version, as opposed to the Wii U version, does not support online play.  It does, however, support local wireless play with both the Wii U and 3DS versions.  This promotion is set to expire on July 31, 2013.  This is Nintendo’s solution to get gamers to play this game co-op.  No word yet if this promo will reach the States or Japan.
