Wii beats PS3 in Japan sales.

According to a report from FierceGameBiz.com Nintendo's Wii has been outselling Sony's PS3 console on a ratio of 2 Wiis to every PS3. Between November 11th and Janurary 7th there have been sales of 534.336 PS3s while, in the same span of time, the Wii has sold 1.14 million units. The total unit of sales fall short of Son'y pre launch goal of 1,000,000 units. What is the reason for these poor sales, you ask? It seems to be the same factor that caused so much concern for potential purchasers of the PS3: the price. According to Naoko Ito, a representative of Bic Camera which is one of Japan's largest electronic retailers, "We can't keep Wiis in our stores, but we still have plenty of Playstations."

The announcement of the Wii's temporary dominance over the PS3 in the console market caused a drop in Sony's stock Market analysts report that it is too early to count the PS3 out of the market at this stage of the game. According to Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Japanese publishing house Enterbrain, “"The new PlayStation could take a while to catch on with consumers, but this is a machine with enormous potential."
