Schwarzenegger signs video game bill

By Lynn Little

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed AB 1793 into law yesterday, hereby requiring stores to post signs and offer brochures about the industry’s game-rating system.

The bill was aimed particularly at first-person shooter games such as Grand Theft Auto that often require players to carry out brutal acts of violence.

Democratic Assemblyman Leland Yee of San Francisco supported the governor completely, and furthermore had no doubts of his actions.

“I wasn’t so much worried (Schwarzenegger) was an action hero,” Yee said. “I thought because the software industry was an extremely powerful lobby, those forces were going to move him to veto the bill.”
