Well, I think my theory failed. Serenity may have proven that. While I will not debate the quality of the movie, as I haven't seen it, I believe it was made primarily for a core group of fans with hopes that interest would spread to others. This is a similar approach to my comic book idea in the first post. But Serenity did not make the killing in the box office that I predicted could happen with such an idea. Oh well, chalk this up as another time I was wrong. I think the count has around 12 digits now.

Well I think the idea could still work. The problem with Serenity is that the director is used to making TV shows and not movies. He could have done so much more. I think if it had been better executed there would have been more appeal.
