Silent Hill Movie

^Somebody with a soul. Thank you :p

Didn't Liefield's women looked like hermaphrodites or was I the only one who thought that? The men and the women started looking the same toward the end of The New Mutants run.

It is almost like how Bendis is making all his characters dialouge almost the same. Well... almost like Ultimate Spiderman.

I swear the only character he knows how to write is that teenage Peter Parker. I really don't like Bendis.

Maverick- did you like Doom?

I bet you did.

Stop being a craized fanboy and go watch the movie again. No, that wasn't the only bit of questionable dialouge. The whole script felt stiff coming out of the actors mouths and it totally didn't match the feel of the movie- moreso it made the whole affair even more confusing than it should have been.

The movie stunk and the script went a long way to help it do so.
Hey. Don't hate on Mav. He'll kill you. And I'll help cover it up.

I really don't like being called names. You don't know me, so don't pretend you do. I said I love the series, that does not make me a fan boy. I also love how everyone over the internet can peg everyone else after a few paragraphs. You are entitled to your own opinion (no matter how wrong it may be). I was just trying to have a conversation about a film with what I thought was an intelligent movie lover, but if all you can do is make unfounded accusations then I am done with this debate.

Ok Mav. I obviously don't know you. But I do know you can't handle a few post on a message board saying that you are wrong.

This movie sucked. I am not the only one who said it. Calling you a "fanboy" (where is the harm in that really?- If I had a dime for being called a fanboy in a forum... ) was out of line and I apologize BUT I will not agree with you that this movie was any good.

Here is my back up:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/silent_hill/

And that is NOT the movie industry pidgon-holing the movie just because it is based on a video game- that is the result of bad reviews from other "intelligent movie lovers".

Note to self- Maverick does not like being disagreed with. I can handle that. I really am a nice guy :)

Here's an idea for the both of you:

Instead of the broad generalizations that it was a good or bad movie, list what was good and bad. You've done a couple, but what does Mav like about it and not like? What does Mlv like and not like?

Cinematography? Sound score? Suspense? Acting? Plot? Action? Amount of blood? Believability of the sets/props/wardrobes?

I read those on rottentomatoes. Those are just opinions like yours and mine. Critics loving or hating a movie dosen't affect my opinion at all, although I do respect them most of the time. Lots of them loved Lost in Translation and I thought it was quite ostentatious.

Actually what I can't handle is when people try to categorize me over the internet. You actually said "craized fanboy" and "Then you don't read the english language much". Maybe I did take your posts a little too seriously, but they seemed derogatory to me (whether you meant them to be just a little demeaning or not, they were demeaning nonetheless).

You don't have to agree with me that the movie was good, and actually I do like being disagreed with because I like to debate with people. I just ask that debates stick to topics and facts, and don't turn into personal attacks (that wording might be a tad too strong but I think you know what I mean). It doesn't matter to me personally if you liked the movie or not, I don't get into debates to change a person's mind (IMO that's impossible to do online), I just like getting my point across.

I don't remember ever saying it was the greatest movie ever and everyone should see it at least 3 times. What I said was "It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible, it was good." I also said "Just remember that SH is a horror film, it's not Oscar Wilde. It totally worked for me on a popcorn movie level . . ." Evidently we go into horror movies expecting totally different things.

It captured the look and feel of SH perfectly, it took the game material seriously, it didn't take any kind of kiddy route (very mature), special effects were very good, and I never got bored even though the movie is something like 2hr, the movie is accessible to fans and newcomers (if your girfriend doesn't follow SH, she won't have to ask things like "who is that person" & "where is that from in a game?"

The movie explains things a little too much (although when you see the ending you realize that perhaps it didn't explain everything to you after all), graphic violence can be somewhat shocking to some, while I will say the dialouge wasn't the best ever (I don't think anyone who helped make the movie ever thought it would be), and that it could've been better, it still felt fine to me.

Well... that's also a theory from Silent Hill 1 the game, that Harry died in the car crash, and all that he had experienced was some sort of messed up, hallucinatory odyssey of reconciliation due to the head trauma of the crash. That is not much unlike what happens in the movie Jacob's Ladder, a movie that the SH series takes quite a bit of inspiration from. One of the endings you get shows Harry still in his vehicle, dead or unconscious. I will need to watch the movie again to get a better understanding of everything.

Anyway, hopefully the article I wrote about this movie will get posted today. Check for that if you're interested.

DO NOT READ THE LAST FEW POSTS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ A MAJOR PLOT SPOILER!!!!

OMG it was great. If you didnt know it was a game you would swear it was just a made up movie. Its ending was a bit strange but I think they died in the car crash at the beggining. O and Pyramid Head is ausome. The best part of the game, and movie.

Wow, you just ruined it for some people! Then again, I never beat SH1 so maybe it wasn't that much of a spoiler. I wanted to talk to everyone about that though. That's what I gathered too. They all must have died when they entered the town at night, and that's why the father couldn't see his wife (or anyone else for that matter) when he and the cop went to Silent Hill.

I would like to play SH1 again, but since the success of the movie the price for the game has gone through the roof. I'm not paying $50 or more for a used PS1 game. Hopefully Konami remakes it on the PS2 (without any major changes) like some rumors are saying.

SH1 AND MOVIE SPOILERS
Spoiler Index: 2/5 (might not know wtf I'm talking about without some context)

The theory that I like the best and that applies to the rest of the Silent Hill games is that there's something anomolous about the geographical region of Silent Hill, the underlying structure of its space, which acts as a kind of server to network subconscious minds together. The trigger for this connection is something within the psyche that is disturbed or troubled. There's hints throughout the series that back this up. Of course, this has far-reaching metaphysical rammifications. How can subconscious minds be networked in a physical sense (by what physical means) for example? This idea allows Alessa to dominate the "Silent Hill" realm with her projection of the world because she has such hatred and has suffered greatly. I'm thinking about writing a follow-up article that will talk about these types of concerns when the DVD comes out.
