Since the average age of MG members seems to hover around the 20-something area, I can only assume that many of us have by now had to cook for ourselves at least once or twice.

Post your favourite recipes here and review the ones you've tried.

Godevenos-Guacamole

2 large avacados
2 small (or 1 large) clove of garlic, crushed in salt
salt and pepper to taste
1 tomato, diced
1.5 tbsp chopped red onion
2 tbsp lime juice
1 tsp finely chopped cilantro, if desired (I don't like it, personally)

Halve avocados and remove pits (the best way to do this is to hold the half with the pit in it in your hand and lightly chop at the pit once with a shart knife, burying the blade about 1/8" into the pit, then, using the knife as a lever, twisting the pit out of the avocado flesh), remember to save the pits to store in the finished dish, to avoid the effects of oxidization on the avocado (nobody wants to eat brown guacamole). Chop the avocado into as small cubes as you can manage, then combine with the other prepare ingredients and stir thouroughly.

Seal in tupperware (or whatever) and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the lime juice to infuse with the avocado.

Serve with fajitas or nachos, or just grab a spoon and dig in!

Should serve 3-4 people for a snack.

Crispy Chicken Tempura-

1) Cut chicken breast into thin strips and soak in heavily salted ice water for several hours.

2) Strain out the water, and roll the chicken in flour or cornstarch.

3) Make a beer batter by taking a can of beer and adding flour until it is crepe batter consistency, or use soda water and add salt, garlic powder and pepper, then add flour to crepe batter consistency. Roll the floured chicken in the batter.

Deep fry until it's light tan.

Bake 10 minutes on 350 if you're paranoid about eating under cooked chicken.

******if you want your chicken on the crunchy side, roll the battered chicken in a seasoned flour.

Peanut Butter and Jelly

2 pieces of bread
Peanut Butter
Jelly
Banana Suit
2 Maracas

Spread Peanut Butter on one piece of bread. Spread jelly on the other piece of bread. Place the two pieces of bread together with the peanut butter and jelly sides intermingling. For presentation purposes, you can cut the bread into a variety of shapes. Or even cut the crust off. But that is up to the artistic flare of the preparer. Once you are finished preparing the sandwich, put on the banana suit, grab the maracas and chant: IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME all the while dancing back and forth. Potential add in lines are: WHERE YOU AT? or DER HE GO or PEANUT BUTTER JELLY WITH A BASEBALL BAT. When you have completed the dance, you may now eat the sandwich. It is the choice of the preparer whether or not they leave the banana suit on, but the maracas should be put down to avoid injury.

Enjoy

nice. i have no good recipes. well, ok here's one i guess. not real creative, but its good.

bruschetta (speleling)
slice fresh french bread loaf to cover a cookie/baking sheet with as many slices as you can fit. butter the tops.
spread pre-diced garlic on each slice.
pile on tons of diced tomatoes
then pile on loads of shredded mozzarella cheese. its better if you shred it yourself, trust me.

bake for 20 or so minutes on like 300 oven temp. play around with temp/time to get desired effect: melted cheese and slightly crunchy bread.

we like to dip ours in a bowl of heated-up spaghetti sauce. presto. appetizers for dinner.

Did anyone else every do the peanut butter and jelly experiment in school? Where you "explain" how to make a PB&J sandwich and the person doing the experiment does literally what you say. So if you say "put the peanut butter on the bread" before syaing to take two slices of bread out of the bag, they out the PB on the bag of bread... etc... it's an odd exercise. It's really effective for CIS classes because it shows how literal computers can be.

We had to do something like that with building blocks for some training thing here BC. We paired up and built a structure with 5 blocks. Our partner couldn't see our structure. Then we had to describe how to build it to them without us being able to see what they were doing. Interesting results.

Just watch out for floating mirrors basil. They seem to have a dire effect on kryptonians.
