France (the country) is offering tax breaks to video game companies. While it's good that France is finally offering people a reason to start a legitimate (non-pornographic) business, the reason they did that was because of how EA tried to take over Ubisoft, which is bad because they screwed them out of millions of dollars. Well, we can only hope that more Splinter Cells and Ghost Recons come from this.....

(Though we may see more DBZ: Supersonic Warriors and Barbie Games)

Maybe some smaller companies will make something awesome. Hopefully France doesn't require that the games promote the French culture, which I think is currently a requisite for movies made with government funding.

The French government actually owns a whole lotta stock in every single company in France. Atari, Vivendi, Ubisoft not withstanding. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's lots of "yay, France" stuff coming out of Ubisoft's main base (Montreal is in Charge of Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and the other Tom Clancy games, with help from Ubisoft Hong Kong, while Ubisoft France is in charge of Rayman, King Kong and lots of their odds-and-ends games).

I'm glad to hear this. I for one, am sick and tired of EA buying up everyone and everything. It's cool to see Ubisoft getting so much support. Although not everything they do is gold, didn't they make that 187 Ride or Die? I read that was junk.

Cool avatar DravensPain. The Crow ruled.

They made that, and 50 Cent Bulletproof. But still, I don't like governments actually sticking their hands into games.

Hehehe....

Well, the only fighting games that come to mind from French companies are DBZ Budokai...

Those speak for themselves, generally speaking.

and both of those are set Japanese-style. I could go for a racing game that tears through Paris, but what would a French fighting game be like.

Pierre vs. Monchante. FIGHT! What would happen next?

jeez spuds, that was a low blow to the entire french community, but to see an accurate portroyal of what a french fighting game would be, look no further then a little family guy episode entitled the big boom, it's the flashback scene where Peter makes a statement about a lack of guns during the time of our forefathers.

Prior to the French Revolution, they were viable warriors. Just look at the extent of their colonies and the French and Indian War. After the Revolution. . .

I remember a few years back when French women were actually sought-after. Then we found out that Miss France in that beauty competition was a man a few years ago. It's ironic how their men have proved more feminine than their women....

they like American men (from my experience). We're taller than most French men and apparently they associate us with cowboy movies and shows (ie. Walker Texas Ranger. No joke. The people I stayed with had only three tv channels ALL THREE had that show on at least once during the day. Seeing The Chuck dubbed in a girly French voice was hilarious).

I'm surprised Big Chuck would let himself appear in France. I heard once that he roundhouse kicked Jacques Chiraque so hard, he sent him flying through a serues of trains in Spain, which they then claimed was a "terrorist attack".

He lets them see him, so they know to fear him. It's a pity thing. He'll still going to crush them, but he wants to give them some hope first.
