Final Fantasy XII

sorry to break your heart spuds, but suikoden III is overrated *Shit hits the fan.....now" if you wan't a good story driven RPG get Shadow Hearts 2 or DQ8 that game is worth the money. Also you can not go wrong with Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2. FFX-2 is good, lots of customization, but true, the story sucks. Battle system is way better than SUCKoden III, and Spuds, I don't hate that series, I and II are among my favorites, but III isn't as good as some people claim, I mean come on, a talking duck who's also a soldier, I'll keep my moogles thank you very much.

Shin Megami Tensei is good, yeah, but Suikoden 3 is so much better.

All the Suikodens have Demi-humans. And better Ducks than Cobolds...

I'd still rather take a vampire that trained as a pro wrestler who fights for justice *see Shadow Hearts 2* and on a similar note, I just got home from going with some friends to visit another friend about 2 hours away, we ate at a spot right next to a mom and pop style used video games store, and I happened to walk out with a copy of suikoden 1, used, everything intact including instruction manual for a whopping price of $9

Don't forget that the pro-wrestler is openly gay. That just makes him super great!

Dragon Quest VIII is showing that traditional RPGs can still be done extremely well and be popular. It is a solid game, a good story (average writing), great voice acting, and it has an large scale and unique world. It has definitely become one of my favorite games.

Nocturne & the Digital Devil Sagas were good, but man they are effing hard. The stories were good, but I didn't like the overworld maps and being a moving pointer. Nocturne had a warped-Twilight-Zoned pokemon thing going on.

Shadow Hearts 2 was an alright game, but I had alittle bit of trouble getting into the game. I think the writing held the story back alittle.

Final Fantasy is still the king series when it comes to RPGs. It still the series that people compare other RPGs. They have the best stories and also they deliver them the best. My biggest thing is that the FF series tries to do things differently each time, even if some people don't like the changes. FFVII had the death of a major character (whether you used her or not) and the materia system. FFVIII had a card game and building rapports with your summons. FFX had blitzball and the change on the fly battle system. FFX-2 had a women getting into and out of clothing in battles without showing any nudity. FFXII has visible monstors and more dothack like fights.

Okay, as much as I love DQ8 I have to chime in here and say that the story was not all that great. It was good, but not spectacular. Unelss I just have standards that are way too high.

What I did like about the story in DQ8 was that it didn't try to take over the game. As I said in my review: "this game is actually about the game, and the story is there just enough to move the game forward instead of the other way around. "

Agreed, I said the story was good, not anything special worthy of a Uwe Boll movie...oh wait, all those movies suck...

I have to agree about DQVIII. The fun came from execution with the story being okay, but the presentation, pacing and voice acting were all extremely polished.

Suikoden III did draw me in for a little while, but I just never got around to finishing it. I just plain lost interest towards the end.

I especially like the replay value in DQ8, you could replay the whole game and have your character have completely different skills, something that is rare in rpgs

Yeah I totally nerfed my hero by going with fisticuffs. Fisticuffs is the worst skill possible. After I finsih the game, I may not do the final dungeon and restrat with different skill paths... maybe spears for the hero and clubs for Yangus (though scythes is fun, there are some powerful drops later on in the game... I love my rune staff and want to get 3 more).

I don't know if I see myself picking up DQ8 in four years like I have with DQ7, but it's easily one of the best console RPGs made yet.

Spears for the hero are pretty nice, I've used them for most of the game.

Zone of Enders was made by Konami.

And yeah, almost everyone loves DQ8 but me.

Didn't ZotE come with some FF demo? Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

And look Steve, we have something in common. Both of us were unimpressed by games that were otherwise critically acclaimed. I wonder what that says. maybe we can think for ourselves and form our own opinions? Nahhh...

I'll tell you what's awesome, whips for Jessica. Get the gringham whip in the casino, and she kicks ass. She's actually my hevay damage dealer; with twin serpent lash she does 200+ damage (I'm around level 40 right now) and it only takes 3 MP... she has something like 250 or so. I wanted to do bows on Angelo but there like four bows total in the game. He's actually pretty decent with swords and the falcon sword, helps to kill metal/liquid metal slimes (falcon sword + metal slash).

Apparently, if you go into the troll maze (not sure if you're that far yet), a rare enemy there drops skill seeds. I may hunt around in there with stainless steal sickle and see if I can grab a few.

The original ZOE (published and developed by Konami) came with a bonus disc of Metal Gear Solid 2. I honestly think the large majority of people who bought ZOE did so for the MGS2 demo.

ZOE wasn't received too well, which is unfortunate because Zone of Enders: The Second Runner is one of the most visually impressive and well balanced games on the PS2. Just ignore the voice acting which will remind you of Resident Evil 1 on the Playstation.
