I was seriously doing the poker thing, trying to actually make money at it. Then I realized thatyou really need money to make money. If you want any kind of steady income, you need a bankroll of at least $10,000 or so to start with, just to pad out the rough times and to ensure you can keep playing. With a banroll of, say, $50, I could make $100 a week or so, but that took like 25-30 hours. At that rate I might as well get a second job. But if I had had enough money to raise my stakes, I could have been making $2000 a week. This is why you see people like Paul Phillips on TV, who have already made a bunch of money; they can finance their poker playing. I just don't have the bakroll to do it... so it's kind of a catch-22. I quit taking it so seriously and focused on my real obligations.
