Welcome to the duchy of Aans L'artour, a vast tract of many miles of forest, plain and villages, all ruled by the rich duke, Henry L'artour.

[note: this is a role-playing thread that uses the rules of Dungeons and Dragons, if you wish to play along, please create a character using the rules set out by the D&D Player's Handbook. This is a self/community-told tale, where each development in your character's life is determined by a role of the dice, as in D&D. Have fun!]

Tishu Dar'Jinta (a Human Fighter [1]), awakes to a knocking on the door to his room at the Furlong Inn. Groggily, he rises, shedding sleep slowly as he crosses the floor.

A young page stands in the corridor, "Letter for you sir!"

Tishu takes the letter and tips the lad a copper, despite having been woken ahead of schedule. the boy grins and scampers off, in search of another errand.

Sliding a finger nail under the seal, Tishu breaks the wax, noting the crest of House L'artour, and begins to read:

"Esteemed Student of the martial vocation and Adventurer:

It has come to our attention that you have found yourself in our domain, Aans L'artour. It pleases us to require your presence at the Ducal Palace on the eve of the upcoming week. We have a task for you to undertake.

You will be joined by others of your kind who will aid you in your task. Success will bring great rewards. Failure to appear at the time and place we appointed will warrant ill consequences.

Signed,

Duke Henry L'artour."

Tishu snorts, offended by the pretentiousness displayed in the Duke's writing. Ill consequences indeed.

And yet, it would be unwise to miss this chance to fetch those great rewards.

[note: I'll wait for other players to recieve their letters before I move to the Palace scenes, where we'll all meet.]
