Xbox 720 and PS4 Information

The publishers of “Crysis 3”, Electronic Arts, have released a graphics comparison between the “Next-Gen” Consoles, PS4 and unofficially named Xbox720, to their counterparts currently on the market. According to a report by “GamesIndurstry International” the graphic capabilities will be “8 to 10 times the power” of the current PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. According to EA, this will be able to create “level of gameplay experience that is unprecedented”

Tim Sweeny has also provided a brief comparison between the graphics of the the PS4 and Xbox 720, against the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. According to a report by Edge, information disclosed that these Next-Generation Consoles graphics will be similar to those of High-End gaming PC’s. Also mentioned was the fact visuals for the PS4 and Xbox 720 will be substantially greater than their current counterparts.

“We’re more enthusiastic now than ever about the future of high-end platforms. What we’re doing on high-end PCs is going to be representative of the future consumer gaming experience and it’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be a substantial leap over the current generation.”

Bioware, the company behind  the Mass Effect series, has recently said that it is inevitable that the developers will also hit the limit barrier placed by consoles. With these Next-Generation Consoles being no different.

“Clearly we still hammer up against the limitations of the hardware on a daily basis and if you push those parameters back, as I’m sure the next-gen will do, we’ll hit them again.”

“The last technology iteration caught folks by surprise – especially the number of people you needed and the skillset jump that was required to do the work that people expected.”

“I think the main thing is that the industry doesn’t get itself into a corner where it becomes economically unviable to make a game.”

“People will do things in a cleverer fashion. I think they’ll be better prepared, shall we say – but we can’t see a ten-fold team increase again as the budgets would just be ridiculous. You’d have to sell 20-30 million copies before you broke even”

Even with these graphics, an approximate price for the PS4 has already been revealed. $400 or more can be expected in the U.S. on launch date, and with no price range for the UK it would appear that a later release is planned. The PS3 hit markets in 2006 with a launch price of $599, which outraged consumers.

Hardware details were officially confirmed about the shape of the new controller for the PS4. The controller will be “roughly the same shape” as the previous “DualShock3” and presumably will be dubbed the “DualShock4”. The button layout remains the same as the previous design but sports a new touchpad in place of the Start, Select, and PS buttons. Another noteworthy detail mentioned about the hardware for the controller is that the PS4 will support Cloud technology by the Cloud-based gaming service, Gaikai. This service allows users to play high-end console video games and renders them on remote servers via internet streaming allowing gamers to share their content. This service has already been getting gamers hyped, while Microsoft has yet to release details on their controller.

Sony has already officially announced their console, the PS4, during their Playstation Meeting Press Conference held in New York on February 20th. Microsoft has been rumored to be holding a large event to unveil their creation, the Xbox 720, April 26th. Both of these Next-Generation consoles are rumored to be coming out on the market this holiday season.
