SEGA wins 2008 Beijing Olympics franchise

SEGA has announced plans to publish a range of titles based on the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Agreements with International Sports Multimedia and the exclusive license of the International Olympic Committee secure SEGA?s rights to publish console, PC/Macintosh, arcade, and handheld games through 2009.

“SEGA is excited to become the publisher for the Official Video Game of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and we are committed to creating innovative content for an unprecedented number of interactive entertainment platforms,” said Hisao Oguchi, President and Chief Operating Officer of SEGA.

A large sample of Olympic sports will be included in the official game; aquatics (diving and swimming), archery, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoe/kayak, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football (soccer), gymnastics, handball, field hockey, Judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, softball, table tennis, Tae kwon do, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling.
