Rock Band: Pink Floyd Announced (April Fools)

As if Rock Band hadn't already taken enough from Guitar Hero, they're also matching the series move for move from here on out, it seems. With the announcement a few weeks ago that Guitar Hero was going to have an all-Aerosmith title, the crazy diamonds at EA have struck a similar deal with 1970s sensation Pink Floyd to do the same, with Rock Band: Pink Floyd. The game will follow the band's rise to fame, starting from the 1964 concert where they first changed their name to Pink Floyd (for those not up to snuff on the mythos, they were initially called the Tea Sets, but ended up scheduled to perform at a small concert after a band with the same name), following them year-by-year all the way to when they broke up, and their brief reconciliation at the Live 8 concert in 2005.

The song list is yet to be released, however 1967 will feature their recently-released "Interstellar Overdrive" and "Nick's Boogie," which were recorded for a Peter Whitehead film, but not released on record until 2005. And the final number will include the Live 8 performances of "Wish You Were Here" and "Money." Whether or not it will include the entirety of The Wall is yet to be revealed, but is something developers are "definitely going to try and include," according to Greg LoPiccolo from the Rock Band development crew, and went on to say "we love being able to take Rock Band in this direction, and Pink Floyd has been great to work with, so we're definitely hoping to include as many songs and performances as possible."

Expect Rock Band: Pink Floyd to hit around Christmas this year for $50 USD for the PS2 and Wii, while the 360 and PS3 versions will go for $60 USD. Additionally, a bundle will be available including all four instruments, the original Rock Band and Pink Floyd for $189.99 USD for the PS2 and Wii, and $199.99 for the PS3 and 360.
