Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (Xbox 360) Review

A few months back I got a new computer that had the original Plants vs. Zombies game on it (a free trial), and I was actually impressed. So I find out about Garden Warfare and I purchase it immediately to play on my Xbox 360. This Plants vs. Zombies game is a third-person-shooter unlike any you have ever played before. It is currently available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC, but the game is coming to other gaming consoles. The game will be released for the PS3 and PS4 in August, so it’s not that long of a wait if you don’t have an Xbox.

It’s worth mentioning that this game is one of the very few third-person-shooters to actually be a good game for all ages. The graphics are great on my Xbox 360 version so I can only imagine how the PS4 and Xbox One versions will look. It’s a very bright, lively game with a ton of action.

pvzactionWhen playing Garden Ops you will start off in a random environment and have to pick a location to plant your garden. There is some strategy here because each specific location has its own pros and cons. Playing solo is extremely difficult so you will not get too far alone, however there is split-screen mode and you can play Garden Ops with up to four players. There are also 24-player modes for those who like a larger multiplayer experience.

Gardens & Graveyards and Team Vanquish are both 24-player game modes, where you can play as either the plants or zombies. Gardens & Graveyards is basically plants defending themselves from zombie invasions, while zombies are attempting to capture bases. I really like Team Vanquish mode, which is where you attempt to send the other team to the compost pile by shooting it out.

Overall, it’s a pleasant multiplayer experience that does not get boring! Children can enjoy it, just as adults can. If you like a third-person shooter and you’re in the mood for something different, more laid back and fun to play – then pick up Garden Warfare as soon as possible. The game is not too expensive, which is great because some of the highest priced games are the worst and you won’t feel like you got ripped off one bit after purchasing this PvZ game.

The multiplayer on Garden Warfare features a heavy emphasis on team-work, which is something that many games fail to succeed at. If you have an Xbox One you can play split-screen mode online with your friend, girlfriend, brother, or whoever else wants to play. This is a feature that I am a sucker for, because so many games fail to let us play split-screen multiplayer online. When I have friends over and they want to play a game online we always pick the one with split-screen multiplayer. I don’t have the Xbox One version but I will probably pick up a used copy just for that feature alone.

All in all, PvZ: Garden Warfare is an excellent game that is great for the family, addicting, and aesthetically pleasing (which is always odd for a zombie themed game). There are four plant classes and four zombie classes, and each of them can be customized to make the gameplay more interesting. I give this game a 4.5/5 simply because it’s a great game for so many people, and it’s a truly unique third-person-shooter experience.
