From the look of commercials we can tell what NFL Street is all about. Jock strap madness and men full of testosterone willing to take the head off of the next person in his unlucky path of defeat.
NFL Street
It will be easy to be able to tell that NFL Street looks alot like NFL blitz from Midway. The same consept, football, with a vengeance. NFL Blitz was well known for its beat um style gameplay. Thats what NFL Street brings, but in a whole new environment.
Just like Blitz, the rules have been almost altogether lost. With penalties majorly harshened down, there is plenty of room to smack the closest rival nearest to you. Even though some of them were lost, you still have to have the fundamentals to even get close to a football title. This is what makes this title fun. Quite often you will get humor out of ransacking the opponent and getting in on a one on one fight against one another. It is sad, yet funny.
Since you are out in the often crime filled streets, you are not able to kick the the football after a touchdown. Instead you start out near the end zone and run there after each touchdown. EA has also brought some more new ideas. Instead of getting 1st and 10 after each for each first down, you get to determine it if you get more yardage then needed. For instants, if you gain 4 more yards then needed, you will start out the next play at 1st and 6. Just like in Blitz, you start out in the line with 7 on 7. You have to choose wisely on your, player roster. Since only getting 7 people to play with, you have to split up your team evenly with a good variety of different positions. They bring this together almost flawlessly, and do it with stride.
Your able to choose from a roster of players that each has his own strengths and weaknesses. Just like in Madden, a quarterback isn’t the fastest runner on the field, and the linemen aren’t made for throwing. Each player has what it is supposed to be.
Instead of an allotted amount of time, you get to choose how many minutes there are into each quarter. If your looking for a short game, go for smaller amounts of time, and vice versa.
Pending on which side your on, offense or defense, there are certain moves you are able to take. When defending you can rip the ball away, block and catch miss thrown passes, tackle and dive tackle. In offense your able to throw, receive, juke, fumble, and many more. You will be able to notice that the tackles are more relied on. The tackles are noticably ten times worse then they should be, and this is not a bad thing by all means , it sometimes can bring a smile to your face of the shear brutality.
Gameplay is what the name suggests, football on the streets. The fundamentals are laid down, but you still can have alot of fun the way the gameplay is set up.
In NFL Streets there is a variety of different modes you can play through and beat. NFL challenge is what you will be looking at most of the time. Not another game mode goes as in depth as this one. In NFL Challenge, you face the A.I and play through many teams. The gameplay actually wearies off very soon in the game. Once you have mastered the moves and learn what the opposing team’s weaknesses are, there won’t be anything else left to be mastered.
Once you score one for the team, a player will do a smack down of a taunt against the other team. Of course they are entertaining for the first few times, but they do wear off just like the gameplay. The music in NFL Streets sets a hip hop/rap vibe to pump you up. All too unfortunately, the only GOOD music plays when your setting up at the main menu. Then they sick you with quite repetitive off the beat sounds during the game. Plus there is no commentary of any kind to spice it up.
NFL Streets isn’t too graphically advanced. The players bodies are well crafted, with only a few flaws. The fields do vary from different places, and there is a nice array of setup in the background. They are fun to look at for a while.
While the controls and gameplay are nice, there isn’t anything that really polishes that well to make you want to buy the game. While the only fun will last you a few hours, the whole game will last about 10-12 hours( NFL Challenge mode). When your done with that, there is always the multiplayer modes, and a few others to keep you busy. This is a nice game to play with your buddies, but nothing too special. I’m sorry, but I have to give ok games ok scores!
