Motorbike (PSN/PS3) Review

Motorbike tries so desperately to be the Trials HD of PSN but ends up failing in almost every aspect. There isn’t a ton of wiggle room from one side to the other with control, the environment, or even restarting the game.  The omission of checkpoints and end crippling glitches sour the entire experience.

Not having checkpoints might sound like a designer trying to ratchet the challenge of Trials up to 11 but it isn’t. Without the option to take these courses in smaller chunks it not only makes the game a giant middle finger to the world, but makes any physics that are present in the game unneeded, annoying, in the way, obstructive, and game breaking.

Motorbike fall

Plan on seeing a lot of this

In Trials the occasional object or environment would move, but normally it felt like it was play tested to the point of either being needed to cleverly beat a challenge, or only there to remind the player of their complete failure as at their “relaxation time”.  Also, Trials normally only put on moveable object between check points, so when one was cleared it wouldn’t impact the rest of the level in any way.  All of these moveable objects were reset the moment that the player reset to the last check point, allowing them to continue their shameful display at attempted progression.  Since there is no way to play Motorbike besides by directly longing for death and playing a level straight through there is a good chance that various moveable objects can be dragged through a level, if it can be beaten at all.

I would point out other problems, and maybe even suggestions on how to fix everything, but instead I will just save my breath and tell you to skip the game and think about anything else.  Check out Trials HD or even Excitebike instead.
