Offspring Fling

**** **

When a mother loses her children, she is willing to battle anything to get them back and so it is in Offspring Fling.  In this platform/puzzle game that is sort of a cross between Super Mario meets Pokemon, a cute creature must get through 100 levels to retrieve her young ones before it’s too late.  The game is a lot of fun.  It’s full of action and thought provoking puzzles that force you to figure out what the best way is through each scene, even if you have to throw your own babies to do it.  It also comes with an editor so you can make your own scenes, the ability to share your adventures with others, and more.  Offspring Fling is available from Steam for $7.99.

 Tower Wars

** **

From Supervillian Studios comes Tower Wars, a 3d strategy game that pits all the best elements into one chaotic mix of mayhem, strength and good old fashion luck.  The world is fashioned as a grid of hexagonal platforms spread through the towns.  On these, you create your many defenses with unique weapons including gunners, mallets and electrical poles.  It is then the enemy’s job (and yours as well) to get through the opposing maze of chaos in order to reach the tower.  The game has all sorts of upgradable weapons, special units that are good at various tasks and technology to use against your foe.  Tower Wars can be played in Single Player mode, with time trial games for a quick fix to full out multiplayer mayhem.  An awesome game for those that like action with their strategy, along with a little cartoon violence along the way.  Tower Wars can be purchased for $8.99 (10% off until August 28th) at Steam.

 Symphony

** **

Empty Clip Studios brings us Symphony, a very unique concept based on one of the classic arcade games, Galaga.  In it, you must fight waves of ships and entities that are out to destroy you.  But who is commanding these ships is the real hoot.  It’s your own music collection.  What?  That’s right, now you can battle against your own tunes in what is really a beautifully rendered game field.  The system literally takes your music and converts into commands for the enemy armada.  Imagine showing Rick Astley what you really think of being Rick Rolled.  With 5 boss sets, 6 difficulty levels and unlimited creation from your songs, the replayability is endless for both hardcore and casual gamers.  We really loved this one and we think you will too.  Symphony is now on Steam for $9.99.

 English Country Tune

** **

No, English Country Tune is not another Rockband clone.  It’s a 3D puzzle title from increpare games where you must set the mechanics in motion to get things from point A to point B in 17 different worlds.  The closest thing I could think of in describing this is Incredible Machines, only in a 3D block environment that gives you the power to rotate around the entire game grid to whatever view you need to accomplish your goal.  The 100 levels are very challenging and we found this one extremely addictive.  It’s great for the casual gamer who wants to spend a few minutes wracking the brain during a break at work or whatnot.  But as we said, it’s also something you may not be able to put down, so you have been warned.  English Country Tune is from Steam at only $4.99, which is a lot of value for a solid game.

 Adventures of Shuggy

** **

Poor Shuggy.  All he wants to do is get the gems from this mysterious castle, but the goblins, ghouls and other baddies, including bosses all want to stop him.  What’s a creature to do?  Well in the platform game Adventures of Shuggy, our treasure hunter can fly, teleport, rotate whole scenes or part of the scenes to reveal new doorways, even go back in time to help himself get out of a mess.  While this one is not multiplayer in the online sense, it is local co-op and having a friend play with you is encouraged.  There are even 36 specially designed two player levels that will require both teamwork and individual thought to get through.  Of course the game can also be played as single player with 100 creepy rooms in the mansion to visit (though not all in order).  All in all, a pretty cool one from Smudge Cat Games, which can be found on Steam for only $9.99.

 Unmechanical

** **

A little flying droid must work his way through 30 levels of brain teasers to get to his goal in Unmechanical, a puzzle adventure by the folks at Talawa Games.  And to do his job, he has to flip switches, move things around, send light droids to do stuff for him, drop things in the right place, etc.  The game mechanics are simple, but the puzzles are challenging, and they get more difficult as you go along.  While that was fun, the exploring was also very cool with rich 3D environments and awesome places to visit in worlds made of rock, steel and even flesh.  We couldn’t wait to see what was next as we took our little helper through is paces.  Unmechanical will keep you thinking at $9.99 from Steam.

** **

Listen up recruits because I’m only going to say this once!  Cannon Fodder 3 is now out!  I repeat Cannon Fodder 3 is now out and it’s definitely a step up from your father’s 1994 game!  In this all new version, as green as the grass soldiers, you will be sent out on missions that will test your knowledge, your understanding of weapons, and your ability to avoid land mines.  500 will enter, hopefully some will return. Your goal will be to take out the enemy position, rescue civilians, find parts and repair things.  And you better do it correctly soldier or you will be scrubbing toilets with a toothbrush (or something like that).  Helping you is 17 different weapons including the dreaded nuclear bomb.  You also have various mechanical wonders to use like tanks, jeeps, etc.  Advancement in the military is also a possibility for those heroes that make it back alive!  So are you ready to take on the world?  No?  Good, get out there and show us what you are made of!  You can join the ranks of the few, the proud, the fodder at Steam for only $19.99!  Get it now!  That is all private!
