What do you get when you merge the number one PC Shooter developer with the number one Western RPG developer?  Who knows, but probably something good.  Today id Software announced they have been purchased by Bethesda studio’s owner ZeniMax Media for an undisclosed amount. id made similar headlines last year after announcing a switch in publishers from Activision to EA.

Comments released by id software owners suggest publishers such as Activision displayed more interest in funding internally-developed titles over their own licenses. "We're really getting kind of tired competing with our own publishers in terms of how our titles will be featured,” said John Carmack, one of id’s co-founders.

This new deal will not have a negative impact on in-development projects. Activision will still release Wolfenstein for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC platforms this fall, while EA will bring out Rage. Doom 4 as well as future Wolfenstein and Rage games will be released under ZeniMax Media.  Stick with MyGamer for further developments.
