memory question

Friend of mine bought a Wii. It uses an SD card for memory but he doesn't want to shell out $50 for the official Wii card. Can he use just any SD card?

ya any SD card works. you can upload photos, music and movies from them as well, but if you store any virtual console games on one you want be able to play them until you move them back on to your wii.

Poke around sites like Amazon and Newegg for hot deals on SD cards. One company or another is always looking to dump some SD cards these days, so no one should be paying full price for them.

And cheers for Nintendo opting to support a common format, instead of continuing with memory cards (or making an unreliable proprietary memory format and forcing everyone to use that like Sony).

most 1GB SD cards sell for around $20 on sale. Often you can find them for cheaper with a mail in rebate. 2GB should run you about $35.
