EQII combat taking way too long??

Anyone else notice that a fight with an even (arrow up or down) con takes way too long to finish unless you're a mage? I understand that tanks shouldn't be dealing tons of damage in short periods of time, but geez. (It happens with damage dealing classes too.) It takes close to a minute to two to kill one mob sometimes. This is very annoying. The exp grin has turned into a combat grind that translates into yet another exp grind.
 
After reading a preview of Matrix: Online, it seems like they are trying to prevent the combat from being to slow. Apparently you pick your moves out in advance and then its some sort of rock paper scissors thing to determine damage etc.. I may have read too little into the preview though and over simplified a bit.
