Is $60 a good price for games?

The large number of different avenues available to re-sell/trade-in physical copies of the games also helps to reduce the overall cost of the games. As does the wide availability of buying used games at a lower price. So there are definitely a number of different options available to save money...

What is the oldest working console you own?

The oldest console I own that is still in working condition is the Atari 2600. Still one of my favorite consoles. In addition to pretty much all consoles released after 1990, other older consoles that I still own include the NES, Sega Genesis and the Amstrad GX4000.

What's your favorite game (musical) score?

Though not a musical score per se, the theme/intro music for Burnin' Rubber still makes me feel nostalgic. I think I was one of the 300 or so owners of the Amstrad 6128 plus, and while it was a complete and utter flop, it did give us this wonderful gem.

Is $60 a good price for games?

Another thing that should be taken into consideration is the undeniable fact that the cost to develop games has increased exponentially over the years. The average cost for a Dreamcast game was around $250,000. It took between $5 to $10 million to develop a PS2 game versus $800,000 to $1.7...

Is $60 a good price for games?

I was just playing around with this Inflation Calculator to see how much games in 1993 cost in relation to today's $60 baseline. A $50 game in 1993 would be the equivalent to $81.98 today! So, games today are indeed cheaper than 23 years ago. Now, one could perhaps make the argument that with...

Is $60 a good price for games?

Brand new console games were never $20-$30, at least not AAA titles. This website has scans of old Electronic Boutique and Sears catalogs dating back to the late eighties and early nineties. Brand new games for the NES and SNES were $40 - $55. The majority of new games for the SNES in 1993 were...

    Free Games For Xbox 360.

Supreme Commander 2 is free through Tuesday. I previously downloaded this through Steam. I would recommend it. It has a deep and engaging storyline that is easy to immerse yourself in and the battle modes are massive. This is definitely a time suck though. Borderlands is free starting...

    Top 4 Exclusive PS4 Games

The two PS4 exclusives I am most excited about this year are The Last Guardian and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. As a fan of the Ratchet & Clank series, I will also no doubt pick up a copy of the latest iteration when it is eventually released (sometime next month I believe). The latest gameplay...

    Favorite SNES/Genesis games?

I have such a huge backlog of games that are still sealed and unopened dating back to the early nineties, though rather sadly, in my case, all the games with the high resale value were games that I foolishly decided to open and play, though I do still have a sealed copy of Duck Tales 2. Looking...

    Favorite SNES/Genesis games?

Chrono Trigger is one of my all time favorite RPG's also, however, in checking the recent prices for brand new factory sealed copies, there is a very small part of me that regrets opening my copy. A brand new, factory sealed copy sold for a whopping $1,301,00 last month.

    What's the Most Difficult Megaman?

It has not yet been mentioned in this thread, but my vote goes to Mega Man & Bass - even the first boss was a major challenge. Though my vote for most frustrating experience probably goes to the Ice Man's stage in Mega Man 1. The collision detection was the absolute worst. Not the toughest, but...

    NES games = best ever.

I had completely forgot about The Adventures of Bayou Billy. That game was as frustrating a game as I have ever played. It was nigh on impossible. I am so glad I never owned this game and only played this at a friends house as it may well have put me off gaming for life. This surely that has to...

Is $60 a good price for games?

I recently came across scans of some old copies of Electronic Boutique catalogs dating back to the early '90s. The majority of new games in 1993 were priced between $48 - $65. When counting for inflation, games today are cheaper at launch than 20+ years ago. A few examples of launch prices in...

Is $60 a good price for games?

One thing that is worth taking into consideration is the fact that the biggest costs these days is not in developing a game, but in the marketing and advertising. EA executive Rich Hilleman has spoken at some length about this, saying that EA typically spends two to three times as much on...

Do you think the next Nintendo system will keep the "Wii" name?

It really did backfire in a major way. Sales of the Wii U just barely surpassed 10 million. It took two and a half years for the Wii U to break the 10 million mark, the PS4 did that in just nine months. The Xbox One sold in the region of 13 million in its first 18 months. The Wii U is...

    Music While Gaming?

I am the exact same way. I find that any background noise - including music - to be extremely distracting when playing video games. I am nothing if not consistent as I can't listen to music when working or reading. I like to be able to give my full undivided attention on whatever it is I am doing.

    NES games = best ever.

I agree. There were so few games that were compatible with the NES Zapper. Out side of Duck Hunt, the only other games I recall the Zapper being compatible with were Hogan's Alley, Freedom Force, Track & Field and Gumshoe. There might be one or two others that I am missing, but the list of games...

Cheapest way to get a 3ds?

Gamestop's Black Friday ad has just been leaked. Perhaps its just me, but I was seriously underwhelmed, though that has been the growing trend with Gamestop in recent years. So I shouldn't be too surprised. A pre-owned 3DS XL will be $99.99 on Black Friday - a $40 savings over the current price...

What's the best family game for Wii?

My personal favorite family game for the Wii is Super Smash Bros Brawl. This is an incredible fun, addicting and competitive game for all ages. A few other honorable mentions go to Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Rock Band 3, Wii Sports Resort and Punch-Out.

    What's your favourite T.V series?

I will second Parks and Rec - definitely one of my favorite comedy shows over the last few years. Ron Swanson might be my all time favorite TV character. Current favorite shows include Survivor, Moone Boy, True Detective, Pawn Stars, Nathan For You, Big Bang Theory and Mike Tyson Mysteries.
