Electronic Arts has made public their intention to operate a game studio in China for the sole intention of developing online games. They plan to have 500 employees located there by 2010 and hope to make $1 billion in Asian revenues.

“We have an objective to build Asia into a billion dollars by the end of the decade,” said Joe Niermann, EA’s Asia general manager. “We expect China will be the lead market in Asia, but there’s upside for EA in all Asia, including Japan.”

Final decisions regarding the studio have not yet been finalized, however Erick Hachenburg has already been named China’s general manager.
