Companies pushing Microsoft to go HD-DVD

By Hang Lauv

After Sony has announced their intention to use Blu-Ray technology for their new PlayStation 3 console, both NEC and Toshiba have been pushing Microsoft to use HD-DVD technology in their upcoming console.

Ryoichi Hayatsu, chief of storage Division 1 at NEC, revealed the news during conference at CEATC in Japan. When asked about the situation, Microsoft said they couldn’t comment on the next generation console.

Both technologies are the next step in high-definition quality DVDs and incorporating HD-DVD in Microsoft’s next console would definitely help HD-DVD become the new standard against Blu-Ray.
