Club Nintendo January 2014 Summary

Club Nintendo Banner

Starting the Year Slowly –

Like last month, Nintendo is now including the Wii U Virtual Console into their Club Nintendo program. Here is a summary:

Game #1 – Game & Watch: Cement Factory (for 3DS, originally DSiWare)

Price – 100 Coins, originally $1.99 (200 Nintendo Points)

Availability – Jan. 14, 2014 – Feb. 9, 2014

Summary – Have Mario drop off cement in this LCD classic title.

Opinion – I am a fan of Game & Watch games but there are better alternatives out there.

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Instead of spending 100 coins, you are better off dropping a few bucks and getting either Game & Watch Gallery 1 or Game & Watch Gallery 2 on the 3DS Virtual Console. It is probably only a matter of time before G&WG3 (GBC) and G&WG4 (GBA) are released on the Virtual Console as well.

Game #2 – Spin Six (for 3DS, originally DSiWare)

Price – 150 Coins, originally $4.99 (500 Nintendo Points)

Availability – Jan. 14, 2014 – Feb. 9, 2014

Summary – Rotate numbers to make them disappear.

Opinion – Never played it but sort of looks like some type of Bejeweled clone.

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins?   Spin Six is definitely the unknown title this month…

Game #3 – F-Zero (for Wii U Virtual Console, originally SNES)

Price – 200 Coins, originally $7.99.

Availability – Jan. 14, 2014 – Feb. 9, 2014

Summary – The original SNES Mode 7 futuristic racer.

Opinion – F-Zero has been offered as a free game from the Club Nintendo program before. It isn’t as fun as say Mario Kart but can be interesting to see the starting point in the series if you have not done so already.

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – F-Zero isn’t the highest quality racing game so you might want to take a pass.

Game #4 – 1080 Snowboarding (for Wii U Virtual Console, originally N64)

Price – 200 Coins, originally 1000 Wii Points ($10)

Availability – Jan. 14, 2014 – Feb. 9, 2014

Summary – This is Nintendo’s N64 snowboarder that includes encourages tricks with many hidden unlockables.

Opinion – Like F-Zero, this game was also previously apart of the Club Nintendo program so you might already have this game on your Wii Virtual Console.

Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – If you do not already own it, 1080 is the probably the best way to spend your coins this month.
