Bioware Unrepentant About ME3 Ending

noimage.gif

Open-ended endings are very rarely well-received by fans. Whether it is ABC soap operas, TV series like the X-Files and The Sopranos or video games like Sudeki, fans do not like investing time and emotion into something and not have it pay off. You would figure that writers would catch on to this…but here we are.

For whatever reason, Mass Effect 3's development team decided it was a great idea to anger as many fans as possible with the climax to a series fans had to pay $180 for (and then another $30 to get the story-relevant DLC…thanks for that, by the way) with possibly the most unsatisfactory ending to a premiere video game series, ever. Casey Hudson, Executive Producer, said that his goal, essentially, wasn't to actually satisfy fans, but wanted to “keep the game from being forgettable”.

Unfortunately, Hudson failed to notice the difference between being remembered for satisfying a ravenous fanbase and unrepentantly ranking among the greatest faux pas in video game. Meanwhile, fans have taken their gripes to the internet and organized multiple petitions to, essentially, fix it, through DLC. While this was already a distinct possibility (ME2's Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC was important to the story, and set after the game's story), we'll have to see if Bioware takes the criticism to heart and offers fans a satisfying ending…for another $10.
