Aerial Assault is one of the few shooters on Game Gear and the only one to support 2-player co-op when using the Gear-to-Gear link cable.
Besides shooting the enemy AI with a partner, the co-op gameplay turns into a surprise VS match at the conclusion of some stages. The winner is rewarded with points, which doesn’t actually do anything, but this vs mini game is actually a nice but out-of-place addition.
