Amazon.com Review At the heart of the PlayStation2 is the 128-bit Emotion Engine processor, which brings lightning-fast gameplay and unprecedented graphics power to your TV screen. The awesome capabilities of this machine have lured not only hard-core and casual gamers alike, but also premier game developers who quickly are building a library of high-quality games for the system. Among the system's top launch titles are Madden NFL 2001, Tekken Tag Tournament, Time Splitters, and SSX: Snowboard Supercross. A big advantage for owners of the original PlayStation is that they will not have to discard their existing game collection, because the PlayStation2 is designed to be compatible with most (although not all) software for the classic PlayStation game system. The new PlayStation2 also doubles as a DVD player. If you get tired of playing the latest games, you can choose from thousands of digital-quality movies--many of which feature fancy extras that are unavailable on videotape, such as alternate audio tracks, unreleased bonus footage, and DVD-ROM games. In addition, the PlayStation2 can play your favorite audio CDs. While the PlayStation2 delivers a slam-dunk entertainment experience directly out of the box, this system also is wired for the future with two USB ports, an i.Link (IEEE 1394/Firewire) interface, and a Type III PCMCIA expansion slot. As a result, the system soon will allow owners to access broadband Internet content directly on their TV sets. Sony eventually is expected to distribute music, games, and other cool content digitally--and directly--to PlayStation2 owners via the Internet. --Brett Atwood

Junk June 14, 2004 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This toy is a piece of junk. My son had a PS2 and it worked for about 6 months. I took it back to the store where it was purchased and they refused to exchange it, they said they could ship it to the company for the price of $50.00. And then it would cost me more when it arrived at its original home, to see what was wrong with it. My son now has about 15 games that are completely useless.
ps2 is not the best toy in the world April 11, 2004 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
ps2 needs better games and graphics. If you're getting a game system get xbox or gamecube
A Game Console to Remember!!! January 17, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
With the current battle being waged in the market for video games and game consoles, Sony's Playstation 2 continues to stand out, and prominantly. Being a pretty serious gamer and owning all of the "next generation" game consoles (PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, and Dreamcast), there's one thing I've learned. Sony PS2 stands out. With a processor only second to the Xbox, USB plug in, and 10 million polygons, PS2 stands on top a fierce battle. What sets the PS2 above all the others is the frenzy of game developers wanting their shot at designing a game for it. PS2 by far has the most diverse, all ages, and widespread genre of games to date. Let me tell you, a system is only as good as its game designers, and PS2 has the best clammoring to get a piece of the PS2 pie.
Great system, but it burned a hole in my pocket! January 10, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ok, so far I've read all the reviews for this product, and barley any of you actuall OWN the american PS2. We'll I do and I'd have to say that it's terrific. It may be a little pricy, ok a lot pricy, but it's worth it. It's compatable with cds, dvds,PS1 games, and it has it's own line of incredible games. So what's the catch?I'll tell you, it's expensive and their is LOTS of compotition. X-BOX is out, GAMECUBE is out, and their are many more still to come, so you might want to save your money. I donno, it's your choice really!!????
