3 out of 5 stars Open driving feel, diff trucks/cars, good wii tilt control, bugs   June 19, 2008

I rented this & forgot it was targeting a younger audience. You're always in a car, so all menu & controls is by wii wheel/tilt way. It's loose, so you do turn the wii a full 45 to turn. You can drive around, then use a GPS green arrows to direct you to spots for missions.
When you do well, you get up in rank & open up new types of cars like fire trucks that spray water with the push of A button, slow ramming car that can go through anything, etc. There is music laying and it's not bad.
There is a decent amount of good civilian traffic, if you hit them, a voice w/picture will cry about their paint job or demand you pay for damages. All voices are done w/pics of the characters. I like that sense since it gives it a more real feel. Even with a squad car, hitting other cars only slightly slows you down & there is good physics, but minimal damage shown as it happens. The AI of the civilians is done well.
The first 5-10? missions were too easy. A blind, deaf man couldn't fail. Especially putting out fires, ramming open blocked roads, or driving to save someone through the parkways, over roofs & through buildings. The environments are done well, they are fun, though there's not enough textures, reflections, everything in the environment reacts if you hit it. The voice over in the clips you've seen are campy/over the top which adds a fun feel, but also too corny.
Now the major issues. It's too easy, therefore boring at first, but since I can see by the locked characters (bad guys?), paint jobs, vehicles there are A LOT of missions, so figure the first level is to hold your hand. The first chase was easy, you only have to slam into him from behind, the side even if just the same speed about 10 times. You're always slightly faster then the bad guy speeder & if you fall pretty way behind, it rubber bands you to him. There's always a big green target above him which makes it very easy to spot him & green GPS arrows like Burnout/NFS if that's not good enough. The second chase you can only counts if you really slam him & only from behind. If you just catch up, you are only pushing him. It's very particular. Once hit, you have to wait 5 seconds before another hit counts. Now to ram him, you have to gain speed, right? & what if you miss & now you're ahead? well, then the GPS says he's back there, so you figure turn around, you do & says, no he was the way you originally were going. I did this a few times before realized to fix it, I had to hit the BRAKES to let him pass me. A lot of braking. It was highly annoying. If you don't turn around or hit the brakes, the chase is considered failed. The third chase requires you to hit him on the side, not with your side, but with your front bumper ONLY. I did it a few times & it didn't count.
There were a few time the picture froze & so did the music for a second or two.
This had great idea & good points, but too many issues & there was just no excitement.

5 out of 5 stars Superb - scifi muscle cars and F1 buggies   May 28, 2008

I had the pleasure of playing a preview version of this game before it was released and it was allot of addictive fun. The graphics are very unique to the Wii, I havent seen anything this good on Wii since its release, its a science fiction world, large bladerunner esque buildings, tokyo hotels and a really bizare funpark ride that I can only describe as 'trippy'. The gameplay is all about driving fast, massive jumps, smashing through debri , putting out fires ( by you guessed it driving like a nutter ), you get the idea, its made by the same guys that made Driver and Destruction Derby so you know the car handling is going to be spot on. Vehicles range form super fast muscle cars, armoured trucks and insanly fast F1 buggies ( yep F1 buggies ) to even an Akira style bike. I challange anybody to play the last mission and tell me that this isnt the best looking game on the Wii.
