The Nintendo Wii July 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ok I've had the Wii for a year now so I know alot about it.
Positive+ -It is fun and the remote works well.
-It's got alot of fun features like the Internet channel and Wii shop.
-You can buy old games (NES, SNES, N64, Genisis, ect)on the wii shop channel. (need wi-fi connection and wii points)
-Games are fun and work well with the Wii remote and nunchuck.
- ECT.
Negitive - -It's a pain to put a GameCube controller on because the ports are on the top of the Wii, so to avoid knocking over the Wii I turn it on its side, but it just suks. So I got a wireless gamecube controller and they work very well!
-When you first get it, it's kind of confusing on how to sync the Wii Remotes but once you do then you have to get the settings on the Wii to make your remote show up on the screen and that takes a while.
-It takes a while for it to turn off. But that's not the big proplem, if you have Wi-Fi. When it's on the light is Green, when it's off it's red. But if you have Wi-Fi the off color is yellow-orange. It's hard to tell if the light is green or yellow, so I have to wait by the Wii and watch the Wii to see if the color is yellow or green.
I don't know if this helped but these are my + and -.
I also recommend that you buy Wii Play because 1: you get a second Wii remote, 2: you get the game Wii Play which can really help you get used to the Wii Remote and it's fun with 2 people!
Ok system, horrible library. July 28, 2008 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
Almost all of the third party software for the console are awful. It is a shame that Nintendo does not have a screening process for software products licensed for their system like Microsoft and Sony do. But even first party titles like Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii are very disappointing.
Vastly Overrated July 28, 2008 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Let me start out by simply saying that, despite what you may have read in many of the reviews here, the Wii is not a perfect console. It is not a bad console, but it has more than its own share of flaws. For many prospective customers these flaws will not amount to much. To others however they can be pretty serious.
If you were to go simply by the "most helpful" reviews here on Amazon, you would have to conclude that the Wii is far and away the best video game console ever made. I can hardly blame most of these people. If I had not owned any other game console in the last decade, as many of them confess they have not, I imagine I would feel the same way. And I have to admit, that I was pretty excited the first time I booted up the system. There is a sort of newness, a freshness to it, even for someone who has been playing games for a long time, that adds exponentially to the initial enjoyment.
However, this is no longer the case. I have owned my Wii for over a year now and the excitement for it has long since waned. The chief culprit here is the severe lack of quality games for the system. The list of games that are actually worth spending $50 on is a short one indeed (less than a dozen in my personal opinion), and shorter still if you count the fact that many of these games (eg Okami, Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess, etc...) are available on older, cheaper consoles. And it's not just that there aren't many good games on the system, there aren't many mediocre games on it either. The Wii has become a system for game developers to shovel out cheap, rushed games in the hopes that an undiscerning customer base won't know the difference.
The truth is, the Wii is a console with a very specific target market. That market is "people who don't play video games". If all you want is to play Wii Sports with your friends or workout with Wii Fit, then by all means this is the console for you. However, if you're looking for something that will give you a steady supply of new, fresh, quality games the I'm sorry but this is not your system.
Some of the other reviewers have painted the picture that only the hardest of the hardcore would not be satisfied by a Wii. I disagree. If you plan on playing more than 3-4 games a year and have even a rough sense of what does and doesn't make a quality game, then you're going to start running into the holes in the Wii's library pretty fast. To me, that's not "hardcore" that's just someone who likes video games.
And really, I'm not sure I would really even recommend a Wii for a lot of casual players. If you're looking for a cheap console to play with friends, I would probably recommend a Playstation 2. The system costs half as much, it has pretty much the same graphical fidelity as a Wii, and has literally hundreds of quality games to choose from, almost all of them available for less than $20. For what it costs you to get a Wii with Wii Sports and a single controller, you could get a PS2 and a copy of Rock Band and still have $20 left in your pocket. Oh, and unlike the Wii you won't have to spend the night outside your local Target just to get your hands on a PS2 either.
The Wii is a good console for a certain group of people, but it is not the "end all be all" of video games that a lot of people say it is. For a lot of people there are better options out there.
  Wii = Friends & Family = A Blast July 28, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First things first. I am a gamer. My fiance is not. Getting her to play video games is darn near impossible. Then we got the Wii. For the first three weeks we played it every night. Playing the Wii isn't just sitting there playing a video game. It's interaction, both with the game and the people you're playing with. If you haven't tried it, find a friend that has one and try it. You'll be wanting one soon enough. This system will change the way games are played.
A Great Experience! Wii Parties Rock! July 27, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'd never heard of a Wii Party before, but since we bought a Wii 4 months ago, We've hosted several. I initially got hooked on the Wii when I played Guitar Hero III for the first time last Christmas at a family get together. I spent the next few months trying to find one. After I did, I came to realize how much fun it really was. My kids (ages 3 and 6) have just as much fun as us big kids playing it. Even my 70 year old mom got in on the act - she and I play 9 holes of golf on it every once in awhile.
My last video game system was an early 90's Sega Genesis. I grew up playing video games, but haven't owned a system of my own since the 3D0 (anyone remember this one?). At any rate, VERY hard core gamers may not like the Wii, but it is perfect for those of us who like video games but cannot devote hours on end to playing them.
My 2 cents
