3 out of 5 stars Same thing as Pokemon Colosseum   July 22, 2007
3 out of 4 found this review helpful

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is the sequel to Pokemon Colosseum. It's almost the exact same game, but it seems like Nintendo just changed a few things and added some more stuff. So I'll start my introduction of this review with some pros and cons of this game.

+ Long Adventure (Around 40 - 50 hours)
+ Purification is easier
+ Good Background Music

- Uses the same old graphics as Pokemon Colosseum (Which means that there is no new improvement)
- Also uses a lot of places you have already seen in Pokemon Colosseum (Which almost means you're playing the same game again)
- You can only catch shadow pokemon
- Battles get annoying later in the game, because the battles take too long and the battles comes to frequently.

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness has fairly good graphics. It's really good for the gamecube, but the graphics don't improve that much from Pokemon Colosseum. Actually the look quite similar and Pokemon Colosseum came quite a while ago. The background is bright and colorful and it's nice seeing the pokemon in 3-D and on the big screen. The pokemon also have nice animations for their attacks.

Some of the music in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is actually pretty catchy and it makes this pokemon game feel a lot better. Everything is in text, so there isn't any voice acting. Which is too bad and the pokemon make the grunting sounds. The background music is nice and goes with the mood of this game very well, but it won't stay on your mind for that long

The story mode is pretty long. (It took me forty hours to finish this game, while the reviews said twenty hours) You're a trainer who must save pokemon from the evil shadows. So you steal shadow pokemon from trainers and you raise them until they are free from the shadows. While doing that you get to fight the evil organization called Cipher and they plan to rule the pokemon world, unless you stop them. The pokemon battles are easy to understand and the battles are all in doubles. So you'll be sending out two pokemon at a time to battle the trainers.

The story, well I guess I just explained that to you already. Multiplayer is pretty fun if you get your friends to join in. You can battle your pokemon with each other and see who's stronger. The controls are fairly simple and you'll probably understand in the first hour of the game.

A pretty long game if you want to catch and purify all the pokemon, so have fun with it. The game is twenty hours long if you want to run through it, but it can take up to forty hours if you want to purify all your pokemon and be a good trainer and all that stuff.

Not so bad, in my opinion it's about the same as the original Pokemon Colosseum. If you're not sure about this game give it a rental before you purchase it. This game will last you for a while (mainly because of the long battles) and will have its ups and downs during some moments of the adventure.

Taken from my GameFAQs review.

5 out of 5 stars POKEMON XD IS THE BEST   March 23, 2007

I mean i've played this awesome game before and it was one of the best video games i've ever played. I'm one of the biggest pokemon fans ever and really thought this game would be exactly like Pokemon Colosseum but I was totally wrong what I think is that the game needs no improvements except that sometimes you get stuck into walls and all you can do is reset the game. But overall this game is one of the best videogames ever.
Here's what my team on there is:Flareon,Ursaring,Shiftry,Aggron,Ampharos, and Tyranitar. My pokemon rock and I'll bet all yours do too. I recommend this game because of it's awesome graphics, it's sweet pokemon you can collect, and how it displays.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER!!   February 6, 2007

If you have a emerald version and you finish the game, you will not regret what you bought!! The graphics are awsome, FULL 3D, and the storyline is very interesting, and it's espeacially cool when the hero uses the snag machine, to snag the shadow pokemon. In the end you get to catch a shadow lugia!!! And if you have a gamecube/gameboy cable, you can transfer the lugia (when you make it good or purifie it) to you GBA pokemon games!! This game is an excellent choice for pokemon fans!!

This game is a sequel to Colosseum, and a much better sequel in my opinion. This time, there are wild Pokemon, but only 9 (stinks huh?) But I beat the game, Lugia, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Tauros, Exeggutor and Rhydon in hand. This is a great game and you should buy it.
