Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is a great game for family fun. With it's puzzles and hidden suprises, it promises to provide entertainment for hours. The gameplay is captivating and promotes creative problem-solving. A must-have for you Nintendo Gamecube collection.

This is a very fun game. My wife isn't into video games very much. She purchased the GameCube and Wii mostly for me. I got this game planning on playing it alone, but my wife thought it looked cute, so she started playing it. Then, we started playing it together.
We played the whole thing together and enjoyed it so much that we've downloaded the original Paper Mario on the Wii Virtual Console and are now playing that together. I've never had a video game provide so many hours of fun together. I just hope they keep making more.
By the way, if you've played the original Paper Mario, we've found that this one is almost exactly the same. The battles, the plot, the characters, the mechanics, almost everything is exactly the same. But we love it! The graphics on this one (Thousand Year Door) are substantially better, though, as are the sounds. Some mechanics are a little more complicated, also.
If you enjoy cute Nintendo games, this one is perfect, especially for $20. We bought a second copy for some friends. If you're a hardcore FPS guy, maybe you should pass on it, though.

I'm not much of a gamer... hence, why I'm buying a game for Gamecube when there's the Wii out now - I'm too cheap to get a new system, haha. But when I find a game that I like, I play like a woman obsessed... and this game totally has me hooked! It's fun, and there's lots of elements to it - battles, helping people at the trouble center, collecting badges, etc... the backtracking through lands is a little tiring after a while, but that doesn't seem to stop me from playing it! :) I haven't liked a GC game like this since Zelda the Wind Waker and Four Swords games.

This game had potential, and artistically it's very well done, but it quickly becomes a chore to play:
- Repetitive combat: there are only a limited number of unique enemies, with much of the "variety" created by simply changing colors/stats of previous bad guys. There are a few combinations of attacks that defeat most enemies, so most of the battles are fought the same way.
- Uninspired level design: players are forced to walk back and forth across levels in order to complete quests, even though one time through a level would be plenty for many people. One level is comprised solely of battles, which are the most monotonous part of the game.
- Slow dialogue: the dialogue is often so slow as to be painful to click through. And I know it's only Mario, but even with low expectations the story leaves a lot to be desired.
- Frustrating badge system: Even if you only ever select badge point increases when leveling up, you will never have enough badge points to wear all the badges you want (not to mention the ones you don't care too much about).

Well I want to tell you one of the reasons I love this game so much. It's because when you beat the final boss, instead of it having the fnal scene, credits, and finally forcing you to turn the game off, making it so that you lose your data and must continue from your last save, like you never beat the game, it has the scene, the credits, ANOTHER scene, and then it goes back to the game. It's all happy and peaceful in the game, and if you go back to the place where the final boss is, it's not there.
But don't think the fun's not over yet! You see I like games that are fun and that you can enjoy after you beat them. You can still find enemies and battle them in it, revisit all the towns, explore, battle, etc. also this is an rpg (role-playing-game) where you collect items, have turn based battles, etc. unlike super paper mario. But it is still REALLY fun! There's also nice music. Intellgent systems and nintendo are really great copanys. This is one of the best rpgs ever. If you like paper mario 64 (the first paper mario game out of the three, for the classic Nintendo 64, the games go Paper mario 64, Paper mario the thousand year door, super paper mario) rpgs, or awsome games, then get it!
