pure awsome-ness November 10, 2008 this mouse is awsome the best $50 ive ever spent i used this mouse and mt accuracy was so high with a sniper people thought i was useing a aim-bot luckly i didnt get banned from the server (and i wasnt useing a aim-bot [looking around room suspicously] )
pros: awsome-ness in a box is the best way to discribe it cons: the cord is a little stiff but if you keep it out of the way and as long as you dont keep it tangled up you'l have no problem
i give it a 9.5/10
Classic design, corrected shortcomings November 4, 2008 A couple of years ago I purchased the original G5 mouse. It was a great mouse for gaming and general use, but it has two issues:
First, the mouse wheel has a problem where, at a particular location, rolling it from one detent to the next does not send the appropriate signal. This has an effect when playing games, such as when using the mouse wheel to change weapons. As this issue was not noted in any reviews, I assume it is a slight defect in my particular mouse.
Second, it only has one thumb button on the left side. Since I use these buttons for navigation forward and back in my web browser, and for various purposes in games, it represents a lack of significant functionality. It's a glaring omission that didn't make any sense.
Although I liked the feel and accuracy of the mouse, I eventually switched back to my MX500 on my main computer, and relegated the G5 to my laptop.
When I was researching which new mouse and mouse pad to get, I saw that Logitech had introduced this new revision of the G5 that now has the second thumb button. I considered purchasing the G9, or the Microsoft Sidewinder, but I decided to go with the classic design that I was already used to in both the MX500 and the first G5 and I'm glad I did.
This mouse doesn't have the issue with the mouse wheel and the return of the second mouse button makes it nearly the perfect mouse. I have added some additional weight to the mouse using the adjustable weight feature. I may take some out to see if I prefer it lighter but for now it feels very good. The combination of this mouse with the Razer Exactmat with Exactrest Gaming Mouse Pad & Wrist Rest--Black (reviewed separately) is excellent for both gaming and general use. Some reviewers have noted that they don't like the texture on the top and/or sides but it feels perfectly comfortable to me.
In summary, Logitech took one of the best mice ever made and corrected the one major problem it had.
Very good mouse October 30, 2008 This is a very good mouse. I love the side buttons, it's great for gaming. But users with small hands (kids, for example) may find it a little too big. I am a guy with an average sized hand, and sometimes I have to move my hand forward so that my thumb will reach the second side button. That's the only reason why I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5.
All in all, best mouse I've ever owned. But I'd suggest you try it before you buy it, to make sure it fits your hand comfortably.
Fantastic for Photoshop users! October 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't play video games. I use Photoshop and other Adobe graphics products for a living. This mouse has, in addition to the usual left and right buttons and a scroll wheel, SIX other programmable keys. You can see how I use them here: [...]
My Current Favorate October 24, 2008 I love it. It has a rough coating on it to prevent slipping when your hands get sweaty. You cant accidently hit the sensitivity butons like some of the other logitec mouse models. My hand doesnt get tired using it like other mice. The weight changing feature is great so you can adapt to your own game genre and control style. My only qualm with it is that its not as ergonomic as other form-fitting mice.
