Good but too Short December 17, 2008 D. Tortora (South Eastern CT) The game is not as good as the first one in my opinion but I enjoyed it. I expected it to be longer because that was one of the main complaints about Fable I. I would definitely recommend it to any 360 owners but you may want to consider renting it before buying as I found little replay value.
A Fun, but Buggy Experience December 16, 2008 L. Scott Fable 2 is a very fun game. It implements a lot of amusing features, and it's one of the few RPGs in the world that you can play with a group of people simply watching you. The interactions with the in-game characters will keep you amused for many hours. The combat system is very simple, but still is in-depth enough to be satisfying. The gun/crossbow mechanics are a good example of simple fighting mechanics that evolve into something more efficient and fun as you develop that skill. While the gameplay is very enjoyable, the game itself has many small glitches (most of which don't ruin the experience). Your dog will sometimes get stuck in fences or fall through the map and disappear for awhile. In my particular game, at a certain point of the story, my spouse simply disappeared, and our child was stuck in our house (unable to speak, move or respond to my expressions). This caused my main quest to be forever stuck on my list, unable to ever be completed. This is the only glitch that actually affected the main progression of the game for me. Also, don't buy this game simply for the Cooperative play. You have to share the same screen (even online) and the guest cannot import their own character (only preset character models who import your statistics). It can still be fun, it's just not as great as it could have been. Just look at it as a nice little perk, and it won't detract from the experience. So, I'd recommend this game as an enjoyable break from real life. Just don't expect too much from it, and get used to the fact that you'll have to deal with many glitches. The gameplay is fun enough that most of the flaws won't even bother you.
Fun Game But A Tad Bit Short December 8, 2008 Christoph W. Brinkmann (Illinois) Fable 2 is a decent game, but is it worth $60? Well...maybe. Its length makes it feel more like an expansion pack to the original game. The game world may be larger than the original's, but given how small that game world was, that's not saying much. It's far too easy to see every location in a weekend. It's also far too easy to beat the story mode and every single quest in a small amount of time. I played the game trying to delay playing through the whole thing quickly, and despite my best efforts, which included bar tending for hours, doing endless slave rescue quests, exploring, finding every silver key and gargoyle, level grinding, gold grinding, renown grinding, purchasing every building in the game and upgrading all of the furniture, adjusting the rent/price bars up and down countless times, buying everything in a town to boost its economy and selling the crap in an economy that was doing well, fighting countless enemies, opening every Demon Door and overall just simply trying to crawl through the main story so as to not blow through it, I was still through the game entirely within a week. Coop was a much hyped feature, yet it ended up being a major letdown. Whether you play coop with a friend on the same system or hook up with someone on XBox Live, it's really nothing spectacular. The other comes in and must stick with preset characters. They are completely unable to earn loot or use what they have collected in their own game, so there's little point in doing coop unless you want to get some achievements with someone who'll make it easier. The Pub Games download from XBox Live Arcade breathes a little more life into the main game, since it's possible to win some neat items from the tournaments (assuming you're patient enough) but these items are only good for an early game. By mid to late game the items you win from the tournaments are useless. The "every action, a consequence" selling point is also underused. There are only so many branching paths in Fable 2 and so for the most part, replaying the game and choosing another path will offer little to make for a different experience. And as for the climax....well, I won't ruin anything but you'll see why I and many others were none too crazy for it. Now is the game without its good points? Not at all. The dog is a very helpful companion and the glowing trail is nice, since it becomes impossible to get lost should you explore before going on with the quest. The game also has its characteristic humor, satirizing the common people's obsession with celebrity status, its gullibility and simple mindedness (you can do a laughable dance, and suddenly some of them proclaim "This is the GREATEST DAY of my LIFE!" and they will be completely serious.) While remaining spoiler-free, the game's villain also gives a speech talking about how his ambitions will be accomplished through the little people's efforts and like the sheep they are, the crowd just laps it up and cheers, as though to pat themselves on the back, utterly convinced that the villain actually gives a crap about the little people. The game also presents in one section a more difficult choice when having to pick between good and evil - you'll know it when you see it. It's better than previous games that forced you to make a choice between good and evil, much better. And the game's biggest strength is that, short as it may be, it's still a fun time. Even though you may have to wait an hour or more to experience the roller coaster (longer if you go in the "front seat only" line) it's the roller coaster ride itself that remains the memory, even though it's only about five or ten minutes long. Likewise, even though we've been waiting for a long, long time for Fable 2, and even though it is really short, that experience while it lasts is a good one.
not too bad at all December 2, 2008 Peter S. Moore (Sasebo, japan) Although some people would say that fable 2 is mediocre, i believe that it was pretty much a very good game for the money. the gameplay is great, and the storyline is good too. the only drawback that i came across is the value of the items and weapons found versus those bought. overall i would rate fable 2 at 7 out of 10.
loved fable November 30, 2008 A. Fisher (Sarasota) Bought this for my son, who is 12. He liked it and plays a lot. Usually, he likes Halo, but this one has other things to do than kill everything that moves. I also like it, and play. The people interactions are remarkable!
