2 out of 5 stars Can't wait to see what's next! Wait...It's over?   January 24, 2007

The title of this review sums up my feelings on Trace Memory.

It had a great, interesting, engaging story that didn't last.

It's as if your favorite soap opera only has 3 episodes.

The puzzles were interesting, but sometimes you've figured out the puzzle before the character in the game has and it makes you want to scream as your would at the television.

I'd be surprised if you get stuck, but if you do, it won't be for long.

The clock that keeps track of playing time in the game clocked me in at 3:29 (three hours and twenty-nine minutes) (yes, you read the parenthesis correctly).

Thank God I paid 11 bucks for it. It's definitely not worth the full price.

4 out of 5 stars Fun and interesting   January 18, 2007
I am new to the DS games, so Trace Memory was one of the games I bought in my first game purchase. I am very pleased I gave it a try. To me, basically Trace is an interactive mystery. There is a lot of stylus tapping involved such as tapping on items you wish to interact with and also tapping through conversation choices. The music in the game had a nice mystery-like tone to it and the graphics were pretty good too. My only complaint is that the game wasn't long enough. It only took me between 6 and 10 hours to complete the story. This title would have been awesome if it was like twice as long if not longer. I wasn't ready for it to end. I recommend this title for some interactive fun.

5 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for. Really enjoyable.   January 17, 2007
I really enjoyed this game! I was looking for a game just like this; Where you have to find clues and figure things out to advance. This is the perfect game if you're similarly looking.

I'm not a "gamer" so the short length of the game didn't bother me at all. In fact, I felt guilty for the 5 hours it took me to beat it. I popped it in and couldn't put it down. 5 hours later, I was done.

The dialogue is pretty lame at points, but that's not what it's about so that's forgivable. Yes, some of the puzzles are no brainers, but it's still fun to complete them.

There are parts where there is lots of dialogue at a time and the characters just don't shut up. you already know where the story is going, but in an attampt to make it more dramatic, it just keeps going and going. Especially at the end when you enter the cave, make sure you have half an hour to finish the game.

I was also amazed at how every feature of the DS was utilized. Like the part with the wooden stamps, for instance... wow. I don't want to give away anything, so I'll just say that this was a really fun game.

I must say though, I needed a "walkthrough" to get me through some parts that I couldn't figure out. Again, I'm not a gamer, so I probably would have a accused this game of being stupid and unbeatable. Luckily, I found a guide on the net and I was able to enjoy Trace Memory in all it's brilliance. Here's a link to the guide I personally used. There are some variables because I guess there's an overseas version that this guys refers to here and there, but it's still a great guide.

3 out of 5 stars Definitely good fun for the younger kids   January 13, 2007
I bought this game because it was the cheapest DS game they had at Shopco at the time. For the most part, the game was fun and the graphics were very good. The puzzles are challenging enough to keep kids entertained, but there is a lot of reading so very young children would not be able to understand most of the story or puzzles. Was able to keep me entertained but I wouldn't ever play it again.

Some cons:

The music: There are only a few songs on this game that loop, and for some reason kept giving me a headache. You might want to turn off the volume for the duration of this game.

The puzzles: Half the time, I had already figured things out before the lead character did...she won't always pick up items unless she knows she'll need it and sometimes you have to keep running around trying to find something else so that she'll say, "Oh, I need to go back and get this item that I saw" because she wouldn't pick it up the first time. I found the game actually a bit predictable, but I don't think a child would.

The duration: It only took me 6 hours to beat the game. I wish it would have been a bit longer.

4 out of 5 stars Good pick - for a short game   January 4, 2007

I truly enjoyed this game. Working a full time job and taking care of the house I don't have much time to devote to a game so I hate that I tend to never finish them. This game was short but not to easy so I was actually able to finish in a short enough time that I could still remember what I was playing. It also makes very good use of the DS features which were a lot of fun to figure out. My husband enjoyed listening to me giggle as I figured out some of the trickier pieces.
