Product Description
For 200 years, Vault 101, a fallout shelter, has served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Yet one morning, you awake to find that your father has left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father. The third game in the Fallout series, Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. Combining the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong, with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda, Fallout 3 will satisfy both players familiar with the popular first two games in its series as well as those coming to the franchise for the first time.

1 out of 5 stars Not a fallout game,, this is its own   November 19, 2008

This is an oblivion in a new theme. Do not think of it as a sequel to fallout.
One would think that a game 10 years in the making and with the title of the long enduring fallout series would have the feel of fallout. No, not so much.yes, it uses the name and theme, but not the feel. I would rather play fallout 2.

Firstly this game does have excellent graphics and almost no bugs.
For someone who hasn't played fallout before this may be a great game.

For those fallout veterans this is a great disappointment. I wish i had saved my money.
The main thing that bothers me is that even though the world is large and the game seems to be free form, almost everything you do results in a similar end.
I really really miss having to think about my actions rather than just brainlessly wander about and kill stuff.
Gets old.

The only real choice of consequence is the megaton city choice. thats it.
The creators went to great lengths to make it so your choices DON'T limit or help you later on in the game. Why would my decisions do that? in real life my actions only have immediate short term effects, right?

You may have different ways of completing a quest or various things to say, it always comes out almost the same. It lacks much of the decisionmaking from the first two. I lost interest after i realized that nomater what i do i can still complete everything on the map.
One would think if you go and start killig everyone you may limit yourself or make it impossible to do other things. Not here. Any created character can complete every quest. To the same end, some have two outcomes but they are fixed.
Why even create my own character?
It was like a one or two time watcher movie.

If i am in a conversation and i flat out insult someone one would think they wouldnt trust you or at the least wouldnt want to talk to you again.
Not like that "Hey you! Ugly!"-"well thats not a very nice thing to call someone new. So what would you like to talk about."
The dialogue is dumbed down and you always have a good, bad and maybe a neutral option. occasionally a skill based one too. but why would you as an angel have the option to insult the hell out of someone? Or as an evil villian i would expect to have special extra evil stuff to say instead of the standard ones, including the suck-up goody two shoes option.

In summary, my biggest complaint is that since i can do everything with any given character, where is the drive to try a different aproach or play the game differently?
And i never think about the choices i make,, they dont have more than an immediate and local effect.
Maybe they will put out a "make this game be fallout"-Patch.

Oh..and for the love of god,, has anyone heard of a soundtrack?

2 out of 5 stars Long, and boring....with great graphics!   November 18, 2008

After all the hype with this game, I decided to buy it....After all, the commercials looked so COOL! So, after I get it, I rushed to play it! Gee, I should have rented this stinker. First you start off as a BABY (COME ON!), and after an hour of this crap, you're a 10yr old kid (wasting more game time fighting & arguing with other kids your age), only to find out that this is a quasi hybrid of a lame Role Playing Game, with some FPS shooter type of gameplay....

The controls are complicated to get used to (they are NOT user friendly)

I was expecting a shooter, and got......."this"......boring game.

OK, in all fairness, I suppose the game is good, if you like RPG games....I...DO NOT! The graphics are beautiful, the layout is absolutely huge, and well thought-out, I however, just don't like these types of games. Too much boring junk, too much walking around, talking to people.....(COME ON) Blah, blah, blah......I do that all day at work!

I want to be thrown into action from the minute I pop a game in. I want to start fighting, and shooting....This game is NO SUCH ANIMAL! If you don't mind waiting 2-3 hours for some form of action (even if it's just shooting cokaroaches), then, by all means, get this game.

I just can't see how this game can actually be "fun" for anybody.

4 out of 5 stars As good as it gets!!! I'm HOOKED!   November 18, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

The graphics in this game are AMAZING! The updated gameplay and controls are a breeze. The thing I love and dislike the most about this game are all of the secrets in the game... or maybe I should say different paths or things you can do. I purchased this game right before my job was eliminated, and WOW, did I make the right purchase! If you want the most for your money, this is it!

Be sure to save often. Also, there IS AN END TO THE GAME...unlike Elder Scrolls Oblivion, which plays extremely similarly to this (by the same company), though Fallout is much better. Since i saved often, after I beat the game and tried out a few options for different endings, I loaded my save before the last part of the game and started exploring. I have put in SEVERAL more hours and still have many, many more hours/days to be put in, as there are SOOO many locations that you can find just by exploring. Oh, and there is a perk you can get at level 20, among a few others that you can choose from, that shows all locations on your map. I did not use this perk, but I wish I had. I will DEFINITELY play the game through again, as I would like to do quite a few things differently. The first time through, I was very good (did the "right" thing most of the time). I will play it through and be evil the second time around and see what options open up for me.

This game is more than just a fun way to kill time... it is an awesome experience and has had me hooked for weeks!!! (keep in mind that I've played this game a TON thanks to being unemployed!).

I paid $60 for the game and wish I would have purchased the special edition, I love the game so much!

BUY THIS GAME! And then buy Elder Scrolls Oblivion Game of the Year edition when you're done with Fallout 3. I even bought the previous 3 Fallout games (Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics) all on one CD from Amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars Its about time   November 16, 2008

Its about time a mind blowing RPG that takes away your social life for hours on end is released into the world! FALLOUT 3 is that game. This is probably one of the best RPGs I have touched in awhile. The concept is so original, the weapons, armor, and combat system are all fun. People that are giving this game bad reviews were probably thinking this was a shooter game...Its an RPG first off, then a shooter.. two concepts I would have never thought would be put together but bethseda pulled it off. The game does have a few glitches, but nothing I would give a one star review for. My opinion and many other peoples remain that this is a five star game worthy of everyones time. period.

5 out of 5 stars Strolling through the Wasteland   November 14, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

Five stars means that once I start I cannot put the game down. Having lived in Washington DC for six years, I actually locate some of the buildings by memory. When I have a few minutes, I sit down just to advance my character along and suddenly find I am late for something else.

The non scripted path through the game is just fine as the individual quests are interesting and absorbing in and of themselves. Also, the inside jokes are well placed. The quest called THOSE is an obvious reference to the 1950s movie THEM, and the rogue android an obvious reference to Blade Runner.

The Guide for the game is hundreds of pages long which speaks to the depth of the game and the size of the map. While you should use a guide to supplement your playthrough, there is so much in the game that you would miss that it is worth using to catch the little extras that have been thrown in.

Overall, the Graphics are good but not as sharp as in some other releases, but believe me, once started you will not care. As with the other reviews, it should be clear that if this game sounds like something you would enjoy, then you will.
