A solid game, but far from spectacular September 1, 2008 Call of Duty has been a longstanding shooter franchise that I just got interested into. As soon as I got over the fact that I couldn't play co-op with my best friend, I was pleased with a very immersive single player experience, with about 15 hours of gameplay. The destructable environments and the many weapons at your disposal are nice. Here are my Good, Bad, and Ugly on this game.
The Good: A long campaign Versatile; tank missions, machine guns, anti-tank guns, you name it Decent selection of allies and axis weapons Destructible environments Friendly AI is actually half-decent good multiplayer
The Bad: AI can be dumb in some missions Bad weapon balance: Bolt actions are much better than automatic rifles. Friendly AI can box you in and prevent you from getting cover
The Ugly: No co-op
All in all, this game is good for the $40 I payed for, but the lack of co-op is a head-scratcher although Im glad that Call of Duty 5 will have this feature included.
Flawed design make for a boring linear passive experience. August 11, 2008 The developers of COD3 also have done other console versions like COD Finest Hour on the PS2.
This time they have a more powerful console to work with, resulting in improved graphics and sound, but not many other improvements.
Lets get right to it.
Pros - Good sound design - Authentic settings and battles - COD is a strong brand
Cons - Unrealistic gameplay - Enemies respawn infinitely - "cardboard cut out" level design - you can see into buildings, but you can not go inside - Enemies respawn in this unreachable buildings - most of the "war" is happening in areas you can not reach because - the levels are linear w/ invisible barriers all around you - Everything that happens is a triggered scripted event - no freedom, stick the linear path to advance story - Game plays more like being in a movie about war than an actual war - you never feel in danger because you know that "big war" going on outside the invisible barriers is not going to touch you. - levels end unexpectedly w/ a basic fade out
PS3 Must Have! July 6, 2008 This is my all time favorite PS3 game so far! This is one of the best war games I have played in a long time. If you like WWII games like this then definately get this one you won't be disappointed!
It is a great PS3 starter! May 5, 2008 Let me begin by saying, one of the other reviewers said this was a great way to begin your PS3 experience, I completely agree. I got my ps3 a few days ago, and it's the first shooter I played. I hope the next shooters I buy can keep pace!
To begin with, the graphics are ok but not really amazing. However, the story line and in game videos will really draw you into the thick of things. You'll really want to defend your colleagues, even if you don't think so at first. The gameplay is engrossing, and the controls, while not great, are sufficient. You will get many opportunities to use the sixaxis feature of the controller, so in that sense, it's a great introduction.
The elements of the game are comprehensive. You'll walk, run, drive, command tanks et al. I haven't even gotten to play the game on-line yet, so I won't review that feature, but expect it will be fun. My sole complaint is sometimes the AI leaves you to do a lot of the work, although you could just sit around and wait for them to do it. I might have to clear out a whole three story house with 16 Nazi's in it, my teammates will trail behind and shoot one or two of them. This is where not being able to give commands hurts, but I understand that wouldn't fit the nature of the game. All in all, I put two thumbs high in the air for this one.
GREAT GAME!!!!!!! April 26, 2008 This game has 14 levals of fun that you can play over, and over again. It is better than CODFH, and COD2. First buy this game than go buy call of duty 4.
