5 out of 5 stars One of the best tactical games for PS2   May 6, 2005

I'm a huge fan of the Dynasty series and the characters from the books Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I haven't read the books, but I first got a taste of the characters in an NES game called "Destiny of an Emperor" which still remains one of my favorite games. This game uses all of those characters and more. The gameplay is very in depth, allowing you to recruit generals (both after battle and by having their friends in your army to entice them to join), form armies of varying size depending on the leading general's "Leadership" skills and so on. Battle is fought on a field that is mapped out in square grids. You can chain tactics together to create devastating combos and wipe out your opponents in pretty much one turn. Also another nice thing about this game is that you can play each of the three kingdoms and also play Lu Bu's missions. By playing all of these, there is a mode that will allow you to view the history of each officer that you have recruited into your army from all 4 games combined, so you can kind of get a history lesson as well. The graphics and cut scenes are very well done. The only complaint that I have is that there isn't an Officer Edit option. If they add that into the next installment of the Dynasty Tactics series, the game will be even greater yet! But still, even without the officer edit, you get alot of game for your buck and presently you can pick it up for pretty cheap. So if you are a fan of great tactical games, pick this up. It will take you a while to beat and since you can play 4 different stories, the replay value is very high.

4 out of 5 stars its ok......   May 10, 2004

the first major problem with this game is that its cool that you can have spies and stuff like that but every time you send them somewhere they get caught like right away. and you can capture an officer and try to hire him its hard to capture him. you have to all these tactics and combos to get him. another thing is that for one of the campains the wu one all of there officers suck. they are all mostly bowmen. and you have to spend a lot of gold trying to make them better. overall its a fairly good game to buy for really big fans of the dynasty series.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - Great Strategy Game   December 29, 2003

This game is awesome! It is a great strategy game. The game idea is really unique that you won't find another one (except the original DT) either PC games or console game having this same great game concept.

The game is turn-base. Your troop will take turn to move and the movement order is based on the troop's morale. The great concept is to use the "tactics" (or special attack) on the enemies. The tactics can be linked to form Combo. The longer the combo chain, the more desvastating the damage you cause to the emenies and the more craft points you could earn so later you would use to learn new tatics for your generals.

It takes a little bit of playing to get learn how to plan out the tactics and link them together. You got to think and plan your troop out or else you won't maximize the effect of the tactics your troops have.

After couple hours of getting a feel of the game and knowing to link the tactics and creat long combo, the game is extremely (again extremely) addictive!

I would give it 6 stars if there is such rating. Koei makes lots of games of the three kingdoms (like romance of the three kingdoms 1-10 both pc and console, Dynasty Warriors, etc...). Dynasty Tactics is another type of three-kingdoms game but Koei has done excellent work coming up with different game concept. This one is again awesome!

I really love it.
Hope you would have fun with it too.
