3 out of 5 stars Over Simplified PC version   September 30, 2008
I have been a PC CIV player for many years and thought I would give this new console version a try.

Pros:
Like the graphics
Fun Game

Cons:
Very simplistic compared to PC version
Small maps
Only five max players per map (result of small map)
Inability to customize victory conditions

Overall a nice little game but don't expect the depth of the PC version here.

2 out of 5 stars Play PC version   September 25, 2008
I had expectation for this iteration of the game. Problem is, I like the PC version. This one feels too short and boring after a while.

Conclusion: If you're new to civilization, try it. You may like it. If you're a veteran civilization player, stay away.

4 out of 5 stars Can't wait for Part 2!   September 23, 2008
Honestly, this game does not look like it's finished. But I have not been addicted to a game like this since Sims! My girlfriend bought me this game Saturday and I was so happy. I had played the demo on my PS3 and was so surprised on how organized the game was. It's like a big ol' chessboard!

Living here in America it put a lot of political and historical events into a bigger picture. I'm serious, this game made me think. Being that the game does have an end, there are pros and cons to it. My cons for the game ending is that I got so into my civilization that I didn't want it to end. I felt like I still had places to concur and things to develop. Civilization definitely didn't stop after the UN was created. Pros for ending the game... I am addicted so it's good to have a finishing point and in that respective I can get on to my priorities in life. :D

***Spoiler****

I was so amazed in the game that when I tried to conquer other civilizations after a while I was unsuccessful. What I did was in the beginning I looked for other worlds and conquered them and made them harbors and universities and the people were grateful. I was so syked when I created the space colony and then launched it in space. I was like: woooooh this game is so cool!

The reason why I rate it 4/5 stars is because this is definitely a game I would pick up later on and get excited about again. If I ever have some free time or just feel bored, this game would remedy all of that. But if you're looking for a loong RPG game with a drawn out linear plot, then this is not for you.

Whoop whoop, hope this review helped.

3 out of 5 stars Civilization Revolution   September 19, 2008
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

This game was fun for the first couple of times you played it, but quickly got repetetive after a while. You can only play it until year 2100 CE which is a short time if you want to get all the technologies (years go by really quickly). Also it would have been more enteratining if you would have had some of the diplomacy options that the computer has.

4 out of 5 stars Solid strategy game but on the light side   September 19, 2008
I've never played any of Sid's games before. I'm a fan of Age of Empires (I & II), Master of Orion II, Railroad Tycoon II and some of the Starcraft/Warcraft games. I thought this game is very playable, easy to understand and has a pretty quick learning curve. I haven't progressed past the Warlord skill level, one up from the beginner. It gets pretty hard pretty fast. The advisors and thier interaction is funny at first but weak as time goes on. Fortunately, you can move past them quickly.

Pros: It's easy to get the basics. Fairly detailed and offeres a few strategies to win. You can focus your society on culture and other civilizations cities just spontaneously join you. There are great people that augment cities with special abilities. You can focus on economic; generate enough money that you win. You can focus on tech and end the game by colonizing Alpha Centauri. Or you can do it the old fashion way, war. Military units upgrade as they win. You can build different wonders that give your civ advantages.

Cons: The diplomatic interactions with other civs are thin and some options are only available to the game controlled characters (i.e. trading tech). The combat is one unit type versus another, though there are some unit ability upgrades that make just having different units around better. The is no tech that eliminates other tech (thought every government seems to have a drawback).

To sum up this rambling review, the game is simple for hard core strategy fans. That is both a plus and a minus. The game is fun, ocassionally funny and worth hours of play. The multitude of civs to become and the levels ensure multiple games to be played for a long time. It's worth the 60 bucks.
