In Smuggler's Run, you play as a member of an outlaw gang whose primary objective is to successfully smuggle contraband from point A to point B while behind the wheel, be it nuclear secrets, explosive material, counterfeit money, or what have you. The goal, while it varies from level to level, is to deliver as much contraband and make as much money as possible while cruising in your SUVs, two- and four-wheel-drive trucks, Baja buggies, rally cars, and even military vehicles. Each type of vehicle has its own unique feel and handling. As if this task weren't difficult enough, you have the CIA and the police on your tail. You're going to have to hurry, because in most cases you're given predetermined time limits to complete your pick-ups and drop-offs. And, to top things off, rival gangs also are after the same goods that you're transporting. Smuggler's Run is like a game of tag, only with vehicles. To add another level of excitement to the game, Angel Studios--the same people who developed the popular Midtown Madness series for the PC--has added real-time vehicle damage as an unavoidable, nasty side effect of racing across treacherous terrain. In this way, the game straddles the fence between a simulation and an arcade game. Smuggler's Run has a mission-based campaign mode, and is laid out over a dozen levels, with huge environments, sprawling desert landscapes, rural towns, forests, and snow-capped mountains. The game also features an open-ended joyride mode for one or two players (split screen) and "Turf Wars," which allows one or two players to create custom scenarios to suit individual tastes. There's even some "Capture the Flag" thrown in, for good measure. Smuggler's Run is moderately impressive with its graphics. Extra touches, such as pedestrians, animals, ambient traffic, cacti, trees, roadblocks, waterfalls, and rivers, add to the all-important suspension of disbelief, but there are other, prettier racing games on the Dreamcast and PC. When all is said and done, Smuggler's Run is a decent and enjoyable racing game for PlayStation2.  Must Have Title for Your Collection July 10, 2006
This game will provide hours of fun for racing fans. It can be a bit frustrating as you advance to higher levels, but if you experiment with different vehicles and their strengths, you will master each level. I've gone through the entire game several times and still have not tired of it. My six year old is also a huge fan. Very good game, although you'll want to turn the voiceover off, especially if you have younger children playing it.

I recently bought this game on kbtoys online, and I have been very impressed with it. Ok, the graphics aren't that good, but the gameplay certainly is. There are 3 modes of play, Smuggler's Mission, Turf Wars, and Free Ridin' (well, that's not the real name but that's basically what it's about). Smuggler's Mission is a one player mode with a number of missions that you have to complete. Turf Wars has 3 sub modes-Smuggler's and Crooks in which you have to pick up and deliver more contraband than all of your opponents in the time limit, Loot Grab in which your gang has to pick up and deliver 18 pieces of contraband before the opponent gang, and Checkpoint Race. All of these are 2 player. The missions are real fun, but it's the Turf Wars that give this game 5 stars.

this is such a terrible game....u cant buy new stuff for ur car or get new cars for jobs you do...its only 2 cars to pick from! even though i bought it for $9 plus tax at the local Game store, its still a waste of money...im gonna return it right away

Graphics: 4/5 - nice environments, cars are ok looking, the scenarios are rather boring though
Controls: 4.5/5 - i really have no complaints, it might be somewhat difficult to maneuver your car if cops are after you depending on how good you are
Storyline: 2.5/5 - grand theft auto but much worse set in a rural setting, with completely linear gameplay. i'll never understand the story exactly.
Fun: 2.5/5 - not all that enjoyable. it was a launch game though and the ps2 took a bit to get off the ground, so what do you expect, must rent before buying or be ready for dissapointment, dont expect it to be close to as good as is advertised
Value: 4/5 - used this game is almost nothing, and you can be plenty of people will be willing to sell, anything over 12 (maybe 15) is too much

When i got my PS2, this was the first game I got. I popped it in my PS2, not knowing what it was about. Then I got hooked. Everything about it is the best..now Number ywo was good..but number 1 is the EXPERIENCE!
