Lose yourself inside the legendary Final Fantasy saga with this massive collection. The Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008 is a stunning assortment that includes the original Final Fantasy XI game, plus four expansion packs: Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan and Wings of the Goddess. Start with Final Fantasy XI, where you'll be able to assume the role of a variety of unique characters. Customize your character's appearance and decide which abilities you find most important. Then develop your in-game persona to become more effective in battle. In the four expansion packs you'll encounter new personalities, take on new jobs and explore new areas. As you continue to master weapons, skills and magics, you'll become a bigger part of this amazing world. In Chains of Promathia, learn more about the fabled God of Twilight as well as the Emptiness, a sinister force that is gnawing away at the world. In Rise of the Zilart, assume the role of Samurai, Ninja or Dragoon and trek through 40 new areas. In Treasures of Aht Urhgan, test your skill as a Blue Mage, Corsair or Puppetmaster, and embark on new missions that will reveal the secrets of this mysterious land. Wings of the Goddess takes you to Vana'diel's rewritten history, where you'll participate in three intense campaigns. In the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion pack, become a Blue Mage, Corsair or Puppetmaster, and explore 40 new areas

5 out of 5 stars Addictive   August 24, 2008
This was the best game of its time very highly addictive. Impossible to stop playing, just as impossible to make enough gil to keep your character upgraded through the levels. I spent lots of real money buying gil from the various chinese sites.

Staying up till 5 and 6am 5 days a week and not even sleeping on days off from work. Adventuring with your linkshell on never ending thirst to quest and level up. I played for about a year after the game was first released, leveling up a monk and started working on a palodin.

One day I came home from work and just cancelled my account. You can re-activate your account for 3 months but I never did.

Its been 4 or 5 years since I last played but from what I can tell now, other then im glad I was able to quit is that the game has not changed very much. Grpahics are a bit out dated by today's standards but that just means you dont have to update a modern computer too much.

I still play games to this day but have been carful to steer clear of FF, WoW and will keep clear of Spore for the same reasons.

5 out of 5 stars Final Fantasy Online Gaming   August 19, 2008
The game is alot of fun and enjoyable. The only thing I would like to see is that the cost of $12.95 per month after a 30 Trail period be entered in the discription so that future purchasers know.

5 out of 5 stars FFXI--Always an Adventure!   August 8, 2008

Jitensha~Kujata Server~75WHM 75BLM

I have been playing FFXI for several years now, and I can tell you that Square Enix always keeps it coming!!! FFXI is not just the first worldwide cross server game, and multi platform game, with beautiful graphics (in comparison to other MMORPGS), it's a world for players who want to be challenged, even if you're not a Final Fantasy fan.

Many of you might find mixed reviews about the game, and I will admit that the FFXI experience is a bit more demanding and time consuming than other MMORPGS. I will conquer on the idea that you can't have fun if you don't have a lot of time though. I'm a young woman, planning to get married soon, just finished school (full time 6 classes a semester), worked, and still had time to play (as well as sleeping, eating, and spending time with loved ones of course). It is possible, you just need to manage your time correctly.

Another reason people don't like the game is because it's not really Newbie friendly. I mean, they have different campaigns for new characters, mentor programs, special items and quests etc, but the constant leveling and less challenging quests can be boring for a player until they reach level 30. That level is when the fun begins, parties become more strategic, players can obtain advanced jobs, and much more, but as stated before, in comparison to other MMORPGS, reaching level 30 could seem like forever.

On a more positive note, once a player reaches level 30+ and is able to explore Vana'diel more, they will start to realize what a detail and amazing world it is! FFXI has an AMAZING jaw dropping story line with each expansion, and they just keep getting better and better! FFXI even covers more than it had when it started. We now can enjoy over 20 jobs, with an amazing sub job system, several PVP's, even more challenging End Game events for rare/exclusive armor and weapons, Campaign battles, and more! Also with the Special Task Force the economy is a million times better, and the game is more fun to play now. Square Enix has for many years kept it's ears open to the players, and I'm sure I can speak for many FFXI fans that the game has evolved into something amazing.

On another happy note, FFXI might now have as many players as other MMORPGS...not they make commercialize in the US, only in Japan (God knows why...)...but I will assure you, the number of 12 year olds are significantly less than that in WoW LOL...

5 out of 5 stars Old Game but lots of fun   August 2, 2008
Getting back to this game after 3 years. I didn't pick up playing WoW while I stop playing FFXI, although I tried out WoW. I just didn't feel WoW all that fun at all. I also tried many other FREE MMOs that are out there but it just gets boring after a few weeks.

1 out of 5 stars wish it was the final fantasy   July 19, 2008

This game has not aged well at all. Quite frankly the quality of final fantasy games has been waning. This game is just boring as hell.
