A Wide-open LA Like You've Never Imagined
Midnight Club Los Angeles drops players into a painstakingly recreated version of world-famous Tinseltown. Broken down into five distinct open-world gameplay areas, linked on the game map, cumulatively these areas comprise a massive area, much larger than anything ever seen in previous Midnight Club releases and possibly larger than any existing racer to date. Within these areas, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Mulholland Drive and Downtown LA, players are free to engage in mission play driving them to attain and customize a wide range of authentic world-class street racing vehicles, or to simply explore the city, taking on all comers in a variety of race types as they wish. Regardless, along the way they will experience not only the visual realism of the iconic boulevards, freeways, and landmarks made famous in TV and movies, but also the realism of the living breathing LA urban experience. Here traffic backs up then clears as people go to and leave work for the day, weather systems come and go and day turns to night, then back again. All the while the race goes on. It's all part of the living, breathing LA. It's all part of the Midnight Club.

The Cars
Midnight Club: Los Angeles will feature an astounding selection of vehicles in the Muscle Car, Exotics, Tuners, Motorcycle and Luxury car categories. At the time of publishing only a fraction of the total list has been announced, but a good sampling of what players can expect at launch can be seen below. Click the links in each category to see screen shots of the cars:

Muscle Cars
Saleen S302 Extreme
Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Dodge Challenger Concept Car
Bikes
Kawasaki Ninja ZX14
Exotics
Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster
Ford GT
Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder
Tuners
Volkswagen R32
Pontiac Solstice
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX

Extreme Customization
Midnight Club Los Angeles continues the tradition of offering some of the deepest vehicle customization you will find in any video game. The hottest licensed cars and bikes in the world are at your disposal - kit them out, supe them up, and personalize them down to the last detail to make them all your own. Visit the Club's in-game garages located in Hollywood and Santa Monica and let your imagination run wild - tweaking and fine tuning through the following three different types of vehicle modifications:

Performance & Handling - To become a street legend, you're going to have to tune your vehicle for maximum performance. The garage offers three levels of upgrades for virtually every component on your vehicle, but it's up to you to craft the winning combination that will give you the edge on the competition.

Exterior - For the Midnight Club, stunting is a habit and its clandestine Los Angeles garages have all the toys needed to ensure heads turn in this jaded town. From making sure your car is dripping in candy paint, to adding unique body kits and jaw dropping extras, the garage offers practically limitless possibilities to personalize your vehicle with aftermarket accessories and customizable options.

Interior - Don't embarrass yourself by pulling up with an outrageously kitted-up car that has a 'me-too' factory interior. Not a good look! You're going to be spending a lot of time behind the wheel, so renovate and make yourself feel comfortable.

Beware or Befriend the Local Competition
The street racing scene of Midnight Club is tough, but tight, meaning that everyone that you meet in expansive Los Angeles could just as easily be an ally as an enemy. One thing is for certain though, they are all willing to throw down at the drop of a hat. Just a few of the faces you'll encounter out on the streets are:

NPC Karol from 'Midnight Club: Los Angeles' Karol, Age 45 - A veteran of Moscow's underground street racing circuit, Karol moved to LA in the 1990's after the collapse of the Soviet Union. If you're looking for cars, he's your man. He owns two successful garages and claims to be able to get hold of any vehicle, no questions asked. He also sees himself as a philosopher and will bend your ear if you left him. He mostly races around Hollywood and the Beaches and his rides include a 1975 Datsun 280Z, 1969 Boss Mustang 302, 2006 Dodge Challenger and a 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV.
NPC Annie from 'Midnight Club: Los Angeles' Annie, Age 31 - Annie has a rep as one of the fiercest drivers in the city. She detests posers and wannabes, is intelligent and sharp-tongued and pulls no punches when it comes to cutting the competition down to size. She has been spotted in everything from a 1983 VW Golf GTI, 2006 Pontiac Solstice, 2008 Chrysler 300C SRT-8, 2008 Audi RS4 and a 2004 Ford Shelby Cobra Concept and can usually be found hanging out near Pink's Hotdog Stand in Hollywood along with her crew.
Rockstar Games Social Club: Join the Community

Benefits will include, but are not limited to detailed player statistics, robust multiplayer leaderboards for all online games modes - plus a host of other special features, including in-game music download opportunities, to be announced at a later date. Simply create an account, link your PlayStation Network ID, set up your profile and you're in.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money ...   December 1, 2008

Not at all what I was expecting. Next time I'll wait until the game comes out instead of pre-ordering. To put quite simply ... the game sucks. Graphics up to par?...well, I should hope so being a PS3. But with completely unrealistic crashes and ridiculously flawless AI -- stick with GTA4 and you'll be much better off. Hope this saves somebody some money.

4 out of 5 stars OK, but room for improvement...   November 30, 2008

I've played alot of different racing games & this one ranks up there as one of the most difficult I have ever had the priviledge of putting in my SONY Playstation. I compare it mostly to NFS Underground part 2. You can ride around town looking for people to race & to knock out objectives, thats good, it's the racing that sucks. The actual racing on this game is very difficult, even when you get money and can buy the high end exotic cars that still doe's not make it any easier, if anything it makes the racing tougher because you come up on traffic & road obstacles faster giving you less time to react. On NFS Underground your route was clearly marked so that you could not miss it but on this game it is not, there are simply icon markers on the map to show which roads you're supposed to be on. Problem with that is that alot of times you will fly right past a checkpoint say on the freeway or something because it's on an off ramp or a sidestreet & depending on traffic you can't get there in time to hit it. If you miss a checkpoint then you have to go back and hit it because none of the other ones will show progress till you do, meaning missing one will more than likely cost you the race. I understand they wanted to make the game as realistic as possible but dang man. Hitting something will slow you down alot if not turn you around 180 degree's the wrong way which is very frustrating. I found that even slight contact with another car can spin you all the way around or even flip you on your roof. Racing on the freeway is the hardest cause there's just soo much traffic, doesn't matter what time of the day it is the freeway is always packed seems like. Watching your car & the GPS at the same time makes the racing tough as well. Meanwhile the whole time the CPU car seems like it just go's right through traffic, it rarely makes a mistake and when it doe's hit a car it doe's not lose any speed it simply just plows right through it & leaves havoc behind for you to deal with. Traffic cars seem like it's their mission to keep your progress hampered as they will into & spawn around corners right in front of you. Once you have run a course a few times & the computer knows your groove it will spawn cars in it to make you have to take evasive action during future runs bumping up the difficulty even more. I started to think that it isn't even about the competition, it's about beating traffic cause you can outrun any car on the game once you have the Z06 Vette. Then there's the cops, man you can pretty much forget about outrunning the cops till you have a car than can go faster than 140mph and even then you cannot hit anything during the chase cause they will catch you even if you hit something and get back up to speed at 150mph+ or so you still will not lose them, it's like they have a tracking device on your car. I thought i had lost them once and stopped under a parking structure, then a minute later they all showed up and i was arrested, i dunno how they knew i was there, it'd be nice if you could shut your car & headlights off but the point i guess is outrunning them not hiding from them. They can even chase you during races. The sewer is the only place you can drive where you can get your car up close to full speed. Also, why are there no straight line drag races like on NFS Underground. I still have yet to figure out how to use my created course in a race. I guess what justifies all this is that you get money & rep points no matter what, even when you finish last. Also you can race any of the courses at any time in ARCADE mode and it counts toward your career which will make it alot easier for you to make enough money to buy the nice cars and get rep points up because in ARCADE mode you can fix the settings so that there is no traffic, it makes all the difference, with no traffic & cops you will almost never lose a race. You can run the same race against the same opponent again & again earning more and more money and points everytime. I would suggest doing this first before racing online, get money & rep points so that you have a car that is a contender, you'll need alot of practice because racing against online racers can be tough. Finally, the visual aspect of the game is outstanding, I mean the game looks absolutely beautiful & the car selection is nice as well except for there aren't any HONDA's or Toyota's. The Civic, Integra, & Supra always seem like mandatory cars in these type of games but I guess they couldn't get a deal done with them. Maybe the BMW M3 as well or a mid to late 80's IROC Camaro. Also, no trucks, there's SUV's and Silverado's riding around town but not one in your showroom for purchase. What happened to the Dodge Rumblebee or the Ford Lightning or Saleen F150. Aftermarket parts are a plenty & the sound of your muscle car once it's hooked up is freakin sweet man it took me right back to the second "Gone In 60 Seconds" with Eleanor. I could wake up to that sound everyday. As an American NASCAR fan who loves horsepower I bought the Buick Grand National, Z06 Corvettte, & Saleen Mustang. As an American serviceman in Japan who loves cute Japanese girls & drifting, bought the 240SX for starters & then the Nissan Skyline. These are the only vehicles I keep at all times, all the other cars are a means to the end of the game that I had to buy to beat different parts of it & then either sold or traded in. Rent it first & see how you like it, thats my reccomendation.

4 out of 5 stars Everything is AWESOME except for the.......   November 29, 2008

COPS!!!!!!!!!!! I'll tell you what bothers me about the cops after I tell you the good stuff.

This is a great game. Very good graphics and sounds. Gameplay is very fun. The crashes are very realistic and fun to watch. This is everything you want to hear thats good about it.

OK, the bad stuff. Only one thing. One very bad, fustrating, retarded thing. THE POLICE!!! They are not programmed right or something. Usually when a cop starts to flash it lights at me, I pull over so I can just get a ticket, but these cops are to stupid to find me and give me a ticket. If they don't find you in about ten seconds, it becomes a pursuit, and since I'm stopped, they find me before I start going again and arrest me and take a lot of money. It's very annoying. If you try to outrun them, 90% of the time, your giong to get arrested. The cops are really fast and they sometimes just appear right behind you if they crash. One time, I was WAY ahead of the police, then they just appeared behind me and spun me out then arrested me.
This game is a great game, just the cops are very annoying. You should still get this game if you got $60 burning a hole in your pocket and to much time on your hands. Because you will be on this thing all day!

I have played all the racing games for all systems, and this has been my favorite. The gameplay is sick and the grafiks are insane. 10 out of 10 any day even my wife loves it.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect continuation of a great series   November 12, 2008

Tons to talk about with Midnight Club Los Angeles so I'll get right down to it. With the extended wait for this release, I had high hopes and Rockstar delivered on every one of them. The graphics on here are much smoother than on Rockstar's other big release this year, Grand Theft Auto IV. Frames flow seamlessly and this game looks incredible when played on your HDTV. When you first pop this game in and start your career, you're given a horrible hooptie that you're expected to start winning races with. Don't be discouraged, this game is pretty hard at the start but once you get into the flow of things, you'll find yourself winning races, racking up cash, and driving much nicer vehicles.
If you're looking for a storyline, you're better off going with Need For Speed Undercover, because Midnight Club LA has no storyline. Sure, you'll meet people along the way and there's a few cut scenes here and there, but this game is all about customization and racing.
The customization possibilities on here are literally endless. You are given full access to every shade of every color imaginable, as well as all sorts of shapes, designs, and letters that you can use to create whatever your heart desires on your car. Once you have your car looking the way you want, be sure to upload it to Rate My Ride and check out the creations of others while you're at it. If you're confident in your work and you make your ride purchaseable, you stand the chance at making some free money from others buying it. Your ride can sell online an unlimited number of times, and all the while you get to keep it along with the cash it makes. The one flaw with this that I've noticed is that once your ride gets 8 or 9 ratings, it really sits without being rated at all after that, and you're better off deleting it and reuploading it for a chance at more ratings.
One thing we were disappointed in with this game is the omission of custom soundtracks. You do have the option of playing music directly from your PS3 harddrive while playing the game, but it makes it pretty much impossible to change songs easily while you're racing like you can with the game's built-in soundtrack. Also, you cannot play your music while playing online.
The gameplay itself is great. This may be the best racer yet released for the PS3 or Xbox360. Los Angeles is absolutely stunning, especially when viewed at 200+ miles an hour. There's not as many gigantic jumps on here like there were in Midnight Club 3, but there's still a decent amount of air to be had. There are also 60 collectibles (yellow Rockstar canisters) hidden throughout the city. When you find these, you can open up all sorts of different cheats, but the cheats cannot be used in races if you want to earn cash or further your progress. The game also brings back the use of special abilities. Agro, Roar, and Zone are all back once again, and MC:LA introduces us to a fourth special ability called Emp. Emp releases an electric charge that temporarily disables all of the cars around you. It's interesting, but it can be very frustrating when used. If your opponent is directly in front of you and you use Emp, your opponents car reacts wildly and you really have to watch yourself or you could end up in a messy situation. Whereas with Agro or Roar, if your opponent is in front of you and you use either of those, there's little to no possibility of you crashing into them.
Online play is decent but does come with a few flaws. The frames get jerky at times, and at other times during a race your opponents cars appear out of nowhere, or appear to drive right through you. Other than that it works, and the ability to earn cash in online races is an added bonus, although it's not nearly as much as you earn during regular play.
Overall, Midnight Club Los Angeles packs a punch worth every penny. If you're a fan of any of the earlier Midnight Club releases, or just a fan of racing games in general, I would highly recommend this game.
