5 out of 5 stars Navy Seals PS2   January 7, 2008
My son is in the Navy and has a lot of fun when he gets a chance to play this.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest game of the socom series   September 4, 2007
I didn't need the game that much however. I just wanted the headset. It's one of the more durable good headsets to get. I went through a lot of headsets.

As far as the game goes though. Everyone thats a fan of the SOCOM series knows they need to remake this game the exact same way but with more maps, weapons, and customizations and it would be perfect. Really fun gameplay

4 out of 5 stars Fun game, but if you're one who throws controllers in anger, stay away!   August 2, 2006

Socom U.S. Navy Seals is the first of three games in the series. In this game, you are the leader of a Seal team fighting the war on terror. You will be able to give commands to your teammates via headset or button controls. The mission locations vary from remote locations in Alaska to the jungles of the Congo. Missions include attacking terrorists on a tanker ship to rescuing kidnapped ambassadors, and for all you gun lovers, you will not be dissapointed with the armory in this game.

The missions and objectives in Socom are a lot of fun, but there are some things that can lower the fun level. The first thing is that the friendly AI is, how should i put this, horrible. Many commands you give your team will not be followed and if they are, it will result in them getting themselves shot and it can become very frustrating when a team member gets stuck behind a wall or a rock, or even a door, especially when the mission depends on them. Enemy AI is pretty good most of the time, and sometimes, even too good. You may find yourself getting very angry over losing a mission because you were sighted by an enemy, when in real life, he never wouldve seen you.

Another downside to this game is that there are no save points during a mission, so if you fail one objective that needed to be completed, you have to start all over. This can make you throw your controller through the wall especially after being slow and carefull through the whole mission. This may happen very often and you need to be patient to play this game, you might find yourself repeating missions several times before completing them.

I dont play my PS2 online (i do Xbox Live instead) but ive heard that this is one of the leading series for PS2 online. So if online play is a factor for you, any one of the Socom games would be a good choice, the later games improving in quality.

Overall, Socom is a great game that will leave you feeling like you've really accomplished something after beating it, and with multiple difficulty settings and several unlockable items, you might even find yourself playing through it a couple times. It's not a game for those who throw their controllers in anger because you will go through many controllers playing this game. Its very challenging, but very fun at the same time. A must have for any action/stealth fan.

4 out of 5 stars good game with a few mistake!   June 10, 2006

Socom is without a doubt the best third person tactical shooter. I love this game if only if i could save in the middle of the game. That right, the dumbest thing any one can do to a game is not allowing a person to save in the middle of the game. Now you would than expected it to have checkpoint where it will automatically save for you, Right? Wrong! Now i probably understand it if it was any other game, but Come'on do the creator believe that we can really go commando? I Don't Think So! Now on top of that, there is absolutely no tutorial in the game. In fact the menu is very plain, just think of halo, and you will understand. One thing that ubisoft manage to do right with the ghost recon and rainbow six series, is let the player switch individual, which made it easier. Sadly USNS doesn't ultize any aspect of this great gameplay. Instead you take the role of kakuna, and if your kakuna die, you lose the mission regardless if all your teammate are alive. However anyone looking for a ghost recon type gameplay will also find it in this game also. What i call the ghost recon shooting mode, where you have a reticle in first person without any gun, well ghost recon has it as well, and surprise, it is done way better!
Even though there are so many thing wrong with Socom us navy seal, i still find it more enjoyable than both the rainbow six and ghost recon series.
Simply put Socom us navy seal is the best third person tactial shooter out there!

5 out of 5 stars So you wannabe a SEAL from the comfort of your TV?   May 19, 2006

This is the best in the SOCOM series. Sure the grahics are a bit out dated today, and the AI when you first play isnt really much to talk about, but...

as you play through the game, your enemies get smarter, your friends start relaying on you to do your share and then some. Some of you may complain about how your friends will leave you out to dry... um, youre the Navy SEAL OFFICER. If you or one of your buddies die, it's because YOU made a mistake, not your friends. It really is a good pre-op for those of you who would think about going in the service. It's almost like playing war games...

There aren't many draw backs on this game, it really delievers on it's name. You're always out numbered, and to an extent you're no better off technologically, you have to relay on those fast reflexes and your strategy, before the bomb goes off, the terrorist leader gets away, or you get shot. Very fast paced game where you relay on stealth [much like splinter cell, only before], where team work is essential and oh yes... something most gamers have forgotten, ACCURACY with your shots.

Though there are a few times when your team mates will wait for about a full second to react sometimes, which does sometimes creat problems sometimes. But let's face it, since when was war fair? this game stays true to reality, cause sometimes it really inst your fault at all.

a very challenging game that deliver's realism, great sound, AI, and stunning gameplay.

I must admit however, i have no commet on how this game performs online multyplayer.

Hooyah!
