Editorial Reviews:

Description
Every second counts. Every detail matters. Every 3-11 p.m. third watch shift brings a rush of risk, fear and lives in the balance. From John Wells (ER, The West Wing) and Edward Allen Bernero (Criminal Minds) comes this action-packed drama about the brave and dedicated people who serve as police, paramedics and firefighters. For them, keeping the streets safe and answering cries for help is all in a day?s work. The 22-episode EmmyO Award-winning Third Watch rolls out in a deluxe 6- disc set capturing all the highly kinetic, highly praised moments from its debut season. Hit the streets with these professional rescuers ? and experience day-in/day-out heroism at its most exciting and intense.

Equal parts ER, Rescue Me, and Law & Order, Third Watch received critical raves when it premiered in 1999 on NBC. All 22 episodes from that first season are included in this 6-disc box set, and the episodes (many of which reflect political issues of the time) stand up well. The third watch refers to the 3 to 11 p.m. shift of firefighters, police officers and paramedics who risk their lives to keep New Yorkers safe. The show focuses on the lives of a handful of characters who are complicated, flawed, and charismatic. Kim Raver (24) shines as Kim, a paramedic who shares a strong bond with both her partner Bobby (Bobby Cannavale) as well as her ex-husband Jimmy (Eddie Cibrian), a firefighter with a predilection for gambling who clearly isn't over Kim. Created by John Wells (ER, The West Wing) and Edward Allen Bernero (Criminal Minds), Third Watch is well written and paces the storylines well. The episodes' endings reflect that not every case is easily solved and that there are unpleasant consequences involved in protecting the rights that many of us take for granted. None of the main characters are presented as over-the-top heroes, but rather as hardworking people doing the best they can. The show at times goes out of its way to depict how flawed some of them are, but the actors deftly draw the focus back to the bigger picture--how to protect people who seem intent on self-destruction. Through the first season, the characters will face addiction, heartbreak, and fear. The one thing that dates the show is the full frame presentation, which belies its era. The special features aren't particularly noteworthy--there's a blooper reel and a "making of" featurette, but no deleted scenes or audio commentary on any of the episodes. --Jae-Ha Kim

5 out of 5 stars THIRD WATCH WAS A FIVE STAR SERIES   November 20, 2008
The entire idea of mixing lives of Firefighters, Police and Rescue Squad characters in New York City was genius by the writers of this show.
The scripts are as well written as any of todays CSI shows and the acting and emotions shown by each actor is wonderful. I simply can't see why the series was taken off television unless scenes became too difficult to film. This purchase of Season one is completely worth the price.

5 out of 5 stars Can't wait until the 2nd Season comes out   November 18, 2008
Really why did they take this show of the air, it's so good. And this waiting so long in between the releases of each season is ridiculous. It's been off forever :( Just release them all at once or just before Christmas would be nice. They know they will make their money. This show is too addictive not to release them. I still watch it whenever possible in the mornings when it comes on.
This show is worth owning whether you've ever seen it or not.

5 out of 5 stars SUPERB YET IGNORED   September 19, 2008
This series is better than 99% of the TV and feature films produced today, yet it has been largely ignored by the literate reviewers and hosts who rave over profane tripe like Deadwood and History of Violence. Why? Third Watch is about flawed, yet decent people who try to overcome their weaknesses and fears to do the right thing. It's a positive view of life.

It reveres love, life and decency while portraying the world as it is, gritty realism and all. And it does it without four letter words. It's this positive view of life that offends the literati, who seem to be stalled in their maturation at the middle school level.
It may be years until the dinosaurs at the studios release this series. Why wait? A loophole in the new copyright law makes it legally available for purchase now. Google Third Watch DVD buy and find the best DVD entertainment site to buy it on 34 disks. It's the best series I ever watched.

5 out of 5 stars "Wow the NYPD, the FDNY, and the EMS workers finally comes 2-gether"   August 10, 2008
This show is "AWESOME".
The writing of the script is brilliant along with
the acting, and the cast. Each episode will keep you
on the edge of your seat. You never know
what to expect next. *KEEP THE SEASON'S COMING!!!!!!
Iam "DEFINITLY" waiting for season 2.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful Writing, Dialogue and Cliffhangers!   August 1, 2008
"Third Watch" knew exactly how to keep you hooked week after week and when it was time for the tv season to end in May, they would always leave you with a great cliffhanger which only made you wait with much anticipation for the new season to begin. I will say I think it was canceled too soon, but one thing is for sure it never left you with a dull moment during it's 6-season run. The relationship between the characters of Bosco and Faith has to be one of television's best ever. Great job to all who were involved with such a wonderful series.
