Description It's the craziest mix-up ever! Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell dazzle the screen in this buoyant and screwball comedy of memory-making and memory-faking. One of Hollywood's most dynamic screen pairs, Hawn and Russell make the most of every hilarious situation in this delightful riches-to-rags romance that's perfect entertainment for anyone who appreciates a great practical joke. Hawn is Joanna Stayton, the pampered wife of a pretentious, yacht-owning socialite. When their boat gets stuck for repairs, Joanna employs carpenter Dean Proffitt (Russell) to improve her closet space. But when Dean asks to be paid, he's blatantly turned down by the "nothing is ever good enough for me" Joanna. So when Joanna falls overboard and gets a bad case of amnesia, Dean takes advantage of the situation and, in a stroke of retributive genius, tells her that she's his wife and the mother of hisfour unruly children!
Amazon.com Real-life couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn star in this enjoyable 1987 comedy by Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman) about an imperious heiress (Hawn) who loses her memory after a boating accident and is identified as the wife of a handyman (Russell). Russell's character brings her "home" to his messy house and unruly kids, and the laughs follow as the aristocratic Hawn tries fitting in. Marshall delivers the comic goods, the leads are entertaining (Russell needs to do more comedy), and the supporting cast is made up of happily familiar faces, including Roddy McDowall, Edward Herrmann, and Marshall favorite Hector Elizondo in an unbilled bit. --Tom Keogh

ENJOYABLE FISH OUT OF WATER/ROMANTIC COMEDY! November 17, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn's chemistry keep this predictable, but likable comedy afloat. Hawn plays a rich selfish snob who's life needs purpose and Russell plays a blue collar guy who gives her life purpose. After a run in that leaves Russell stiffed for a job he does for Hawn, Russell finds a way to get paid and then some! The story is contrived to say the least, but the kids and the rest of the cast seem to be having fun in this slightly crude and cute comedy. The DVD is pretty basic with a trailer being it's only extra. The DVD transfer is good, nothing special, but the film is entertaining and fun.
opposites attract September 10, 2008 The word classic is used way too often, especially when it comes to films and books. However "Overboard" is as close to a modern-day classic as any movie has ever gotten. It's like all the suns were aligned to make the perfect movie. It has a great script, an excellent director (Garry Marshall) and some of the best performers in the business. That's why it's almost impossible to believe that "Overboard" was a huge bomb, both commercially and critically when it came out in early 1988.
This is the main cast: Goldi / Annie (Joanna Stayton) Kurt Russell / Dean Proffitt Michael G. Hagerty / Billy Roddy McDowell / Andrew Katherine Helmond / Mother Edith Mintz Edward Hermann / Grant Stayton
The public has never forgotten about this film though and because of that it's found life-after-death on broadcast TV over the last 2 decades. I can't think of a more family-friendly, feel-good movie that everyone will laugh at. It is the perfect story for anyone who likes man's movies with a little lovey-dovey stuff mixed in.
gotta love Goldie Hawn August 29, 2008 This movie is always funny. So much better feature length than cut for TV. Great chemistry between Goldie and Kurt. One of my favorites.
Adorable movie! June 1, 2008 Totally entertaining. Heartwarming and funny, and Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are simply magical together. I enjoyed every minute and even applauded at the end.
