 The single-best accessory for the Game Gear! February 16, 2001

Since the Game Gear is essentially a portable Sega Master System, it was only logical that somebody would find a way to use SMS (Sega Master System) cartridges on the Game Gear. Enter the Master Gear Converter. I have a third-party clone of this product, but they are basically the same. Just slip the converter into the Game Gear cartridge slot, fasten the converter to the back of the Game Gear with the provided plastic screw, pop in a SMS game, and go at it! You've just doubled the Game Gear's game library! Most of the SMS games were not converted into Game Gear games, so now you can play SMS-exclusive games on the Game Gear! Altered Beast? It was never made for the Game Gear, but with the Master Gear Converter and the SMS version of Altered Beast, you now have Altered Beast for Game Gear! When playing SMS games with the converter, a small bar will appear on top of the Game Gear screen, and another black bar will appear on the bottom of the screen. This puts the game image in the aspect ratio it would be in if you played the game on a real SMS (with a regular TV). Some text-heavy games like RPGs may be difficult to play with the converter since the text could be very small on the Game Gear screen.The only drawback to this is that it doesn't have a slot for Game Gear games. If you want to play Game Gear games, you must loosen the converter's plastic screw, remove the converter from the Game Gear cartridge slot, and pop in a Game Gear game. However, that does not keep it from being the single-best accessory for the Game Gear!

This is one of the best accessories I've ever used with any Sega System, I own all the systems that is put out by Sega and when I'm on the road I take my NOMAD and my GAME GEAR with me.
